AsciLab speakers are about to launch

May I ask if Ascilab currently has plans to release a center channel speaker in the price range of F6B~C6B (under a $2000 budget)?

I really like the Philharmonic Audio HT Center, and I’m currently deciding between using the BMR Monitor + HT Center as a three-way LCR setup, or Ascilab’s C6B as the Front L/R. However, the center speaker is still a missing piece. When I look at the 2025 roadmap, models like the C6C and A6C MTM speakers are priced too high for me (over $5000).

The basic design for a 2-way center speaker has already been completed. However, due to preparation for the upcoming product lineup, further development is currently on hold. We will do our best to make sure it can still be released somewhere in the middle of the lineup.

Internally, we are planning a 2-way center speaker suitable for models below the C-line, as well as a 3-way center speaker that matches the A and S lines. That said, as mentioned earlier, we do not yet have a clear release schedule because our focus is on the products already planned for launch.

I appreciate AsciLab offering the Metallic Gray color option for the enclosure of the C6B loudspeaker. Alas, I do not need another shade of gray in Seattle. :(

Given the independently measured performance of your products to date, select ASR members may consider them to be 'end-game' for their listening space.

As such, some may be willing to pay a surcharge for an enclosure with a color other than Dead Flat Black or Matte White.

Consider exploring how much it would cost to offer additional colors in limited production runs - perhaps even down to a 'one-off' of a specific color and finish.

Alternatively, you could simply buy a pair of white ones and take them to a local paint shop. In my experience, they usually have a whole range of different colors as leftovers, which is easily enough for a couple of speakers, and they are often willing to do it for a small “donation.”

We’re excited to share the final measurement data for the C8C.
The C8C sets a new standard for active cardioid loudspeakers.
Data for the C8C paired with the BX8C will also be released soon. THD and MD data will also be added.

Very nice!

Congratulation on your efforts! @AsciLab it looks like the C8C has a slight narrowing in the horizontal dispersion from 3-6khz. Do you expect this will change how the speaker sounds compared to the S6B, which looks incredibly even across the whole range? Or is it the case that the deviation won't make an audible difference?

Yes, there is some area that directivity being narrow. It’s caused by different baffle width(different diffraction) to have enough internal volume and width to mount 2 big subwoofers. But it is only boosted a bit at on-axis. If you set the speaker 10 deg toe out, it won’t be a problem. You can see how neutral the listening window it is.

Very interesting speaker, impressive measurements. This might become a successor of my Neumann KH310 in my untreated living room setup!

Looking at the rear wall bounce, it seems that absorption >300Hz is still required behind the speakers. What's your setup recommendation @AsciLab ?

I see the S6B pricing has been posted on the kr forum with pre-orders starting late December. Hopefully the international price isn't too far off the kr one, any chance international buyers can get a late December release as well? ;)

I'll be upgrading from og Sointuva (BlieSMa T34A-4 Alu tweeter, purifi woofer & 2x 6.5" pr), so the only real change would be the purifi tweeter but still excited to see how much impact it'll make!

Wow, these C8C measurements are possibly the best I have ever seen!

Since this is not a low-frequency range, it can be easily treated using approximately 2-inch-thick fiberglass or mineral wool absorption materials.

In addition, if you leave about 4 inches (≈10 cm) of space between the rear wall and the C8C, SBIR-related cancellations in the 400–800 Hz range will not occur.

Can you help me understand the reasoning? You've said previously that the speaker will be approximately 25.4cm wide, 35cm deep, and 56cm tall.

I'm not sure which values to use for the 1/4 wavelength calculation, f=343m/(Lx4). For 10cm there will be a null at 858Hz. For 17.5cm, my assumption for the distance to the center of the sidemounted woofers, the null will be at 490Hz. For 45cm, the distance to the front wall plus the distance to the midwoofers on the speaker's baffle, the null will be at 191Hz, although I doubt the midwoofers will have much output at this frequency.

If you add the 10 cm to the middle of the sides you geht 27,5 = about 310 Hz. Not soure though where the crossovers are in this design?

We can at least summarize that this specific cardioid implementation still requires acoustic treatment behind (and at the sides of) the speakers - other than, e.g., the D&D 8C. The acoustic panels can be thinner as with monopoles, though. On the other hand, the C8C comes much more reasonably priced and with better distortion numbers than the D&D. Still one of the most interesting (for me) speakers recently launched.
