AsciLAB @ Purité Audio

What's the main advantage of speakers with Cardiod? Will it work in normal rooms?

It will work in normal room, and the speakers will be less affected by the acoustics of the room. Typical differences in sound; I usually say that you hear more of the room acoustics that are actually on the recording, and less of your own room. Translates to better soundstage and "larger" sound. Also often clearer / less muddled as you have less reflections bouncing around.

That is exactly my experience, and the improvement is reflected in the in-room measurements between cardioid and non cardioid designs.

These aren’t cardioid,

But these will be:-

When I take a pair of 8Cs to a potential customer for evaluation, I ask them if possible to keep their existing systems in place so we can compare directly.
If their existing system is still in situ I measure their system as well so we can compare measurements.
The 8Cs response is always tidier, typically with a nice gentle downward slope, better bass extension and just clearer sound.
The very first pair of 8Cs I sold the customer asked his wife her thought she only listened to both for a very short time and said, the 8Cs are ‘clearer with better bass’ she was absolutely spot on.
Since our first Cardioid design Kii,Then Kii/BXT) to the 8Cs to the Sigberg Mantas there have been worthwhile audible benefits to a cardioid response.

I'm interested in the actual in room measurements compsring cardioid and non cardioid from similar models.

I don’t really keep measurements from customers systems, but next install I will post them up.

What are Ascilabs’ C6B( spec and measurements below ) natural competitors?
We have had Kef’s LS50 here both passive and wireless I could get another pair they have a similar retail price.
From memory they just didn’t have the same weight or punch as the C6Bs, SCM19s over twice the price?
What other measurement led two ways are out there?

I just wanted to compare AsciLABs C6B to a known reference and I thought the KEF LS60 sort of fitted the bill, two way, similar price (Kef bit more expensive ) unfortunately I didn’t have any here but my neighbour bought a pair and he’s an obliging chap.
Because of Eversolo amp failure it wasn’t a really valid comparison, no instant switching but interesting nevertheless.
I will conduct a proper comparison ( and write about it in a tedious long winded fashion) when I have two identical amps here, Boxem ‘Arthurs’.
AsciLAB do not disappoint!

Oh dang, I forgot, it would have been interesting to do a shoot out between the ascilab, the Revel M106, the Fidelia DIY kit, and the Philarmonic Mini Monitor. All four very competent design with attention paid to dispersion and neutrality bu different end goals.

Revel M106, SB Acoustics 6" woofer and 1" tweeter with the same motor but different materials, wide dispersion wave guide and custom phase plug.

Fidelia DIY kit, exact same SB Acoustics driver family as the Ascilab, but 5" woofer, but another custom waveguide to get a wide dispersion, about the same as the Revel but no phase plug.

Philarmonic Ceramic Mini, same drivers as the Ascilab but with a 5" woofer, no waveguide, using stock phase plug.

All four use roughly the same drivers, and the same two way design, with the biggest change coming from cabinet (waveguide included) and crossover design.

I am interested to hear suggestions for ‘rivals’ to be candid I have tended to retail more expensive speakers whose larger margins allow mr to install the speakers, measure, discuss and implement any filters.
Ascilab have really impressed, essentially compared to the LS50 they sounded like a larger three way design, they are excellent, I can only imagine what the C6C ( cardioid) particularly when it’s sub bass module ( again cardioid) the BX8C is released.
Everyone is more than welcome to hear the AsciLABs we don’t do pressure selling and others opinions are always interesting.
Apart the two elderly gentleman who thought that the 8Cs had too much bass, they had always used BBC designs, Billie Eilish was all a bit too much.

LS50 is considerably smaller than the C6B I think, Q Concerto would be more similarly sized, and the price is close as well, but it's also a considerably darker speaker.
