Ascilab Owners – Ask Questions, Share Feedback

@AsciLab, while you are here, could you please give a quick update on when can we expect the next batch of C6Bs to be done?
C6B will be in stock in November to December as current expectation.
F6B and F6BS will be in stock next Monday.

Audiophinics list their restock for the first week of November. Ascilab most likely would prioritise their distributors over their own website.

I have a Denon x3800h. Would that be enough to drive a pair of C6Bs, or should I consider getting a separate amp for these?

Welcome to ASR!

The C6B has a low 84-85 dB @ 2.83 V sensitivity and a very low impedance (below 4 Ω from 90 - 600 Hz and below 3 Ω from 110 - 450 Hz), and will likely be a difficult load for the typical AVR.

Are you running any other speakers (ie, surround) or just the stereo pair?

Will you be using a subwoofer?

How big is your room and how far away from the speakers will you be?

And how loud will you be playing them?

Thank you for the response, I'm still somewhat new to this hobby and I've found it somewhat confusing what I actually need to power speakers to their full potential.

I'm current running a 3.1 (2 Q150s and R2 Meta). My plan is to purchase the C6B and move the Q150s to surround speakers instead.

My room is ~14' x 12' and I'm listening to them about ~10-11ft away.

I guess not that loud? When I'm listening to music I have it set to -30 dB. When I'm watching movies I have it set anywhere from -15db to 0.

You should be totally fine with the Denon. The Q150's have comparable sensitivity to the C6B's. My Lyngdorf amp has less measured max power into 4ohms (100W vs 168W for the Denon) and has no trouble driving my C6B's in my 15'x22' room.

Yeah, I think you'll be ok too. The only real way to know is to try. If you find the amp distorting during the loudest movie passages, an external amp might help. So I'd say start with what you have and only get an external amp if you find it's really needed.

Since the AsciLab speakers do have a fairly low impedance, that means they will draw a fair amount of current from any amp that powers them. And more current means more heat. So one important thing to do is to make sure the Denon has ample space around it for ventilation, and don't put any other gear on top of it. If it still runs hot, a small fan will help.

Otherwise, I think you'll probably be fine.

I doubt the Denon X3800H will be able to power the C6B, with its ~3 Ω impedance from 110 - 450 Hz, to its full potential. Let's run some numbers:
  • Amir tested the X3800H, and it's max output into 2 channels at 4 Ω is 168 W. Since the 4 Ω output is current limited, the 3 Ω output can be estimated to be 168 × (3/4) = 126 W.
  • The sensitivity of the C6B is 84.5 W @ 2.83 V. With 3 Ω impedance, that is 8/3 = 2.7 W.
  • The max free field, 1 m distance SPL at 110 - 450 Hz is: 84.3 + 10 × log10(126 / 2.7) = 101 dB
  • Add 6 dB for room boundary gain, 3 dB for 2 speakers, and subtract 10 dB for listening distance attenuation, you can expect about 100 dB max at your listening position for the frequency range of ~110 Hz to 450 Hz.
  • Conservatively, that should be well sufficient for about 80 dB average listening level, which is moderately loud.
Whether that is sufficient or not depends on how loud you like to play your music and/or movies. I would hazard a guess that it is sufficient for most normal uses, but may be a little lacking for dance parties.

Above 80Hz, Around 100dB is the continuous maximum level.

So a WiiM Amp Pro crossed at 80hz with a sub could drive the C6b sufficiently for most people?

After much debate with myself, I'm now close to being set on a pair of C6bs when they are available. I will pair them with an HSU ULS-15 MK2 sub and hopefully drive them with the WiiM Amp Pro.

EDIT: Fixed the typo!

Did you mean now, rather than not?

Anyone wish to share feedback on progress of orders placed for F6B / F6Bs directly on AsciLab store since they were listed as available again on ~Sept 15th 2025?

Alright, I'll go

I reckon I got an order in quite promptly after it being possible again on the AsciLab store website - I'd checked on the morning of Sept 15, and it wasn't yet available to order. Then checked not too much later in the morning, it was available to order, and I did - so, one might think it would have been pretty high up in their order queue (of new orders for F6B(s) at least). The order was for white waveguide - so not one of the custom colours that might take longer.

Their website said, and still does - "The AsciLab F6B speakers are made to order, and it may take about 2 to 3 weeks from the time of order to delivery."

15 days later now, and the order status says "Before Shipment".

Not complaining - just sayin'.
