Well, 5.7 is the score calculated by the first user giving a preference score in Amir‘s review thread: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...ence-dbr-62-speaker-review.12232/#post-357722

But actually (5,56+5,82)/2 = 5,69 as well.

Thanks, so distortion is <3% at 85dB, and according to Ascilab's own measurements, even at 95dB (which is very much above my usual listening level) it's just slightly above 3% between 500-1K Hz, so guess it's fine to do without high-passing (unfortunately, my Marantz NR1200 doesn't have HPF )

"Think in dB, not %!" Quoting John Siau. dB is more perceptually relevant and easy to compare, add and subtract.

You can look at measurements by Nuyes and Erin.

They usually include MTD measurements with and without a high pass filter. You'll find that the filter is less significant than you'd think for distortion and max SPL, but not having one will make sub integration difficult. The Geddes approach does not involve high-passing the mains, for example, but requires at least three subs for smooth frequency response.

Would someone please correct me if I'm wrong? To me, the Ascilab F6B has smoother directivity compared to the Elac which means it is more EQable. I would prefer a speaker which responds better to EQ.

I plan to add a pair of speakers as the Side Surrounds in my HT setup. Due to the asymmetry of my seating position, the left Side Surround will be about 60–80 cm away from me, while the right Side Surround will be 1.3~1.5 m away. I need speakers with a narrow depth, and their low-frequency performance should allow me to cross them over at 80 Hz. Calibration will be done using Dirac Live.

Currently, I am considering the Ascilab F6s and the KEF Q4 Meta. Both have a depth of around 15 cm, which fits my requirements well, but I am not sure how to choose between them. On paper, the KEF Q4(port on the side) offers better bass extension, higher sensitivity, greater maximum output, and a coaxial design. Meanwhile, the Ascilab F6s(sealed), like the other speakers in my system, are non-coaxial, which might provide better surround matching.

My setup:
  • AVR: Denon X3800H
  • Fronts: Elac BS243.4 Bookshelf
  • Center: Elac BS241.4
  • Surround: Elac DBR62 (to be used later as Back Surround)
  • Subs: SVS SB3000 + 2000Pro
  • All speakers are within 2 meters of the listening position
Any suggestions are welcome.

side surround is not that important IMO, you might want to check out Elac WS1445 as matching style can be as important as sound in this case.
