Ascilab C8C vs. Pitt & Giblin Superwax Mini

Ascilab indeed looks dreadful. No style. No inspiration. Design of “let us put some deivers in a box”. Let’s call them “A6B” very inspirational.

These avantgarde colibri speakers are a piece of art. And yes, Colibri, that is a nice speaker name.
I think the ascilabs look 1000x better than the avantgardes, and the name colibri sounds like it came from a temu version of a silicon valley naming committee

(Gee, it's almost as if people have different tastes and arguing about aesthetic preferences is a complete and total waste of time and energy)

I don't know why but unless everyone is agreeing on how awesome "said speaker is", these threads often come across as teenage girl bitchiness. It's quiet disappointing really, for all the measurements on speakers there seems to be a lack of measured responses...not all but still.

Also @amirm in two consecutive posts basically nullified the whole foundation of this site. That measurements and objectives results are the core of a good speaker.

You has basically subjectively dismissed P&G design aesthetic and lauded the Asciilabs for which you are a vendor.

Aesthetics are personal. Some people love walnut veneer and sharp edges others don't. But citing your own commercial client base as evidence that a competitor would be 'relegated to a dedicated room' is not forum moderation. Its vendor speak/bias. Without any comments on measurements, lack of data for comparison etc. this leaves a sour taste and is bias and counter to what this forum is suppose to be about.

Clear conflict of interest here.

Then use your free will and leave the thread, no one's holding you back. So far you took the crown for the most useless comment.
So calling out in no uncertain words what Asciilabs has already eluded to in their disappointment on the commentary on their aesthetic is useless? I'm sorry if you think honesty is a bad thing and should be silenced in this forum or thread.

Please watch our tone here and stick to technical discussion. Thanks!

Yes. It's widely known as toxic behavior in online communities under the slang term "white knighting".

Was not coming to anyone defence, asciilabs are well capable of that themselves. I only used a previous comment as a bases for mine

very cool looking speakers made in Tasmania of all places... cast horns look very cool and i see they are using eminence drivers which are very capable imo
Would love to listen to these if anywhere in London has them!!

Have heard the c8c and it's incredible capable.

It is. And my first comment was a praise of the measurements of said speaker:
It is nice to see them post spin measurements. They look good! I worry a bit about all the sharp edges causing diffraction but then again that is how you get the hardwood construction.

You has basically subjectively dismissed P&G design aesthetic and lauded the Asciilabs for which you are a vendor.
The what???

The principle from pitt and giblin attempted to put its competitor in bad light due to their construction, looks, etc. for commercial market. As it happens, we have plenty of those customers at Madrona so I countered what he said. I then added that the Ascilab has a modern look which customers value as I see in my interactions with them.

But even if I had done that, so what? I made such comments in my subjective reviews of the same. Here is the A6 review: "The A6B manages to act serious and stately at the same time. The rounded corners and invisible fasteners give it an elegant look. And the solid weight, an impression of quality."

What I stated is my opinion and I will continue to share that.

I have written to P&G on a couple of occasions without reply.

My first comment was about how petty comments can get when it's not in unanimous agreement. So the tone of P&G would also fall under this. Asciilabs would fall under the bucket of others with a level/friendly response even if maybe not warranted given what was said.

You've just quoted your own review praising the A6B for its rounded corners and invisible fasteners. Yet the criticism aimed at the competitor in this same thread was precisely that squared cabinets and sharp edges look outdated, and that people now want rounded corners. So the aesthetic being promoted as 'what customers value' happens to align exactly with the design language products you sell and against the one your competitor uses.

Not disputing your right to an opinion. The point I was trying to make was when a forum owner and vendor presents aesthetic preferences as market consensus on a platform built specifically to replace subjectivism with measurement, those two things are at odds.

Really when it comes to discussions like this, a simple line to disclose the commercial relationship when relevant for transparency.

They are not. How a speaker looks is very important to buyers. No way do I want to ban such discussions as key decision points for customers. We are not objectivist to the point of being stupid. I suggest you move on.

Where did banning come into the conversation??

Nobody suggested banning aesthetic discussions, and you know that. That's a strawman of a point that was never made.

The actual argument, which you still haven't addressed, is about disclosure. Aesthetic discussions are entirely valid on any forum. The issue is that when the person leading those discussions is simultaneously a vendor for one of the products being discussed, readers deserve to know that. That's not objectivism versus common sense it's basic transparency.

'I suggest you move on' is telling from a forum owner.

And I do so when it matters such as in the review. I am not going to put disclaimers when I am making a statement about what I think of the looks and design of an audio product. No one is banking on that at the expense of their own eyes. Ditto for any other casual remark I may make.

Suppose didn't feel this was a casual response given the tone of where the thread went with certain comments from a manufacturer, specific to this thread.

Thanks for the replies
