Ascilab C8C V1.1 Measurement Update

Have no issue with my set, take your time with firmware update.
Is Hypex helpful in setting this up? Do they send firmware updates for their hardware allready?
There was a guide to make a DLL file, but it can’t be a full firmware update file, rather can be a “filter upload machine”. Not a full setting for device setting or else.

We are still preparing the software. Doing lot of things as a single person is hard. if it needs a longer time, we’ll plan to update each by each.
Dear @AsciLab could you please communicate the ETA for the C8C v1.1 software update? Unfortunately nno timeline was provided so far from your side.

It seems clear the @AsciLab guys are struggling with it. I hesitate to blame them for anything but setting premature expectations to an impatient audience (me included). It is really on Hypex, whose limitations continue and are numerous. IMO they should modernize their software at least up to the 2000s where easy network downloads of updates became regular practice. These are ~$1000 plate amps and should not only perform but have seamless software behavior.

On the other hand, there is no danger of John Deere-like OEM control of the device.

But if it becomes clear that a full firmware overlay is impossible that would definitely be very disappointing.

While I don't have many skills, one thing I have a lot of bitter experience with is getting software support to get off its bum and help customers. If the AsciLab guys haven't gotten on the phone with Hypex live then that would be my next recommendation. Worst case they should IMO consider another OEM plate amp.

Are there no hackers on here that can help figure this out? Bonus for Korean language skills!

By what I read this seems to be a limitation on the Hypex part, if the filter + settings upload cannot just be applied like their own firmware updates per *.hex file.(?) Maybe they didn't realize this to be a necessary feature before AsciLab became their customer?

There is IMO no better alternative available on the market, given performance and configuration possibilities of the Hypex FusionAmps. But as always with a closed (source) system, the manufacturer has to be addressed for changes. You'd certainly not want any fishy hack, since messing with the update which also applies changes to the crossover, might just break your speakers.

But if nothing is wrong with your C8C, try to be patient. I know how hard that can be but even amirm said both are very fine adjustments so really not mandatory. I'm absolutely sure that nevertheless AsciLab will want everybody to have their units updated, as soon as they figured out how to do it best.

Please send them an email and ask them to perform a remote update for you. They will work with you to setup the time and date to do it.

I appreciate the soothing words. And I am not concerned about speaker performance right now. I’m sure the AsciLab guys are working their butts off getting all these products to market so I am certainly willing to wait.

My reference to hackers is just that there might be some ASR member firmware experts who can assist in scripting a system reflash, which is nearly trivial for an experienced engineer but very difficult for a rookie. And Hypex should certainly be providing that capability to its OEM clients at a minimum.

I get the idea, but the source code is not open and some parts might even be protected, so finding a security vulnerability would be required to "unlock" the system and then reverse engineer - if such an update path has not been foreseen by Hypex.

Not worth it if you ask me and certainly AsciLab couldn't provide warranty anymore in case of unofficial ways.

Maybe send an email to Hypex and ask for their assistance (you are their end-user as well)?

I would not go directly to Hypex except possibly to complain on behalf of AsciLab.

I think the real issue is how to do an update without including a password (which I assume is AsciLab’s, not Hypex’s, for protection against IP theft). I think also that it should be doable with a fully supported reflash but maybe not.

It seems there is more than just the tiny filter change here or users could just do it themselves.

Sigh. Anyway they still sound great!

There are two parts to software. OEM settings and user. The former is full setup for the speaker and is password protected. Company can remotely login to you windows machine and do the update with said password.

Recently hypex has released Beta API to control their software from another app. I am fairly certain the API can only change user settings, not OEM as Ascilab had hoped.

One change is a moderated filter i had dialed in in my review which you can do yourself using Hypex software. The other is a slight change to crossover which requires the password and rather non intuitive process to get it loaded.

I had a small issue with one speaker hypex software setting where they fixed it remotely. During the connection I asked about this new update and he declined to perform it but said that a user update process was in progress. I got the idea that he is stretched thin on a lot of projects and customer support.

We've tried to design a new firmware to upload the whole filter and setting, But we found it is hard to do all at once.
So we're gonna ask to Hypex one time more, If we receive there is no way, We'll update the filter one by one through remote support.
Sorry for waiting so long time.

As a beginner in the market, it’s appreciate enough to be compared to industry standards like Genelec, Neumann, KEF or etc.

Still it’s just a one step or two and there are so many other steps we have to go so that we finally achieve to being called “standard”.

Thanks for all your encouraging. We’ll do our best to keep the motto.

“Best performance in its price range, lowest price for its performance.”
Hey do you guys plan on adding woofer covers for the sides? I would love to buy one but having the sides open all the time makes me a little paranoid since I own dogs.

It's hard to design a grille to cover the long excursion. They are durable(surround and cone) than normal mid-woofer. You don't really need to worry about.

Guys, We share the C8C, BX8C Assembly Animation. Hope it helps well when assembly them.
Thanks for also sharing the BX8C user manual. It says that daisy chaining only works with digital sources and connections. Does the analogue through output have any use in the C8C or BX8C? If not, does that mean we would need four analogue outputs to connect the C8C and BX8C combination from an analogue source?

Analog also can use daisy chain in the same channel.

My BX8C was delivered!
But iam out of the country till next week...
Please see the animation and if you are hard to assemble, feel free to contact to us. It is thrilled for us too that waiting to see the first impression of other’s!
