Ascilab C8C V1.1 Measurement Update

I'm waiting too. Please provide an update that is NOT Windows dependent. Thanks.

The update is likely to be via Hypex HFD which is windows dependent- I may be wrong but I doubt it will be any different

This (to have the Hypex Filter Design software work on Linux and macOS as well) might be a request that should be directed towards support [at] hypex.nl instead.

Hello. Sorry for late update.
I’m not familiar with coding, So I’ve been struggling to design auto update file. The shape is done and works but there are some errors. Would you please wait? We’ll share the update file soon.
hi @AsciLab any news on this?

I recently reviewed the Ascilab C8C active speaker:

I found the performance excellent but noticed a slight boost from 4 to 5 kHz which I easily corrected with EQ. Members also noticed that the directivity was not as constant in some area.

Company was quick to revise the equalization and crossover to better optimize both factors. Company will be able to update already sold speakers using remote access and Hypex FHD software so anyone wanting the upgrade, can easily get it.

Let's see the difference starting with our spinorama frequency response:

Given how good the response was before, the difference is hard to see so let me overlay the two on axis responses:

Ignoring the slight level shift due to different placement on Klippel NFS, we see that the small boost in 4 to 5 kHz is essentially gone (black).

Differences are harder to see in beam width but here it is:

It is more visible to my eye in the contour plot:

Notice how there is better matching below 1 kHz which has the nice bonus of having wider dispersion. This should improve spatial effects a bit.

Vertical response has not changed:

I was pleasantly surprised by the effect on predicted in-room response

Now has a perfect slope.

Since this was such a minor variation, I did not try to run the rest of the tests.

I have enclosed the spinorama measurements and would be curious what impact it has on preference score.

Conclusions
Beauty of an active speaker shows up here in how easy it is to refine the response of the speaker. Ascilab is to be commended for jumping quickly to optimize these two small variations. The combination of the two changes makes the C8C even more perfect than it was before.

NOTE: My company, testedaudio.com, is the exclusive distributor for Ascilab products in North America. While objective tests remain the same as for any other speaker, subjective remarks may have business bias.

You should be paid a consulting fee.

How does a company updating the response, presumably via DSP, differ from parametric equalisation on the user end, when it comes to transient response?

While DSP can offer PEQ as part of its chip package, it also adds the ability to make other adjustments that have bearing on the FR. PEQ is just eq alone, being either analog or digital with digital having more flexibility.

The one filter you can do externally as i did in my review. This update includes that but also changes to the crossover. This, you can't do externally since you can't control each driver separately.

Both are very fine adjustments so really not mandatory.

@amirm - do you still have a set of C8C, to listen to the BX8C combo when it arrives?

I have been holding on to a poor buyer's C8C but now I am starting to feel really guilty. Will likely ship them out to the customer at this rate. If so, I will likely buy a pair for my own testing at a later date.

Ah!
My understanding from the last email was that the BX8C should be shipped by end of April - which is soon! But I guess a lot of things happening worldwide currently....

Hi @AsciLab, now - another two weeks later - I am indeed becoming a little bit impatient.

Could you please provide at least a ETA for the firmware update? If there is another way to receive the update, please let me know via PM.

Thanks a lot!

Can I ask if you're still required to transport by air? Does it still cost you and the manufacturer a lot of money?
We are and the cost is insane since the conflict in the middle east. Worst yet, we charged a fraction of what it cost to ship them domestically.

I am also interested; it maybe solves one or two issues.

Hopefully the update overrides everything like a clean install, back to factory defaults, without leaving any traces of the previous configuration - @AsciLab?

Also on these previously mentioned issues no reply (further emails had been sent). How about your enquiry @danielst2711?

What's going on @AsciLab?

Please keep us at least in the loop! Thank you.

Daniel’s issue was solved. That was a miss setup and fixed easily by remote connection.

We are still preparing the software. Doing lot of things as a single person is hard. if it needs a longer time, we’ll plan to update each by each.

Have no issue with my set, take your time with firmware update.
Is Hypex helpful in setting this up? Do they send firmware updates for their hardware allready?
