Ascilab C6B & F6B Launched – Ask Questions, Share Feedback

Alright, I'll go

I reckon I got an order in quite promptly after it being possible again on the AsciLab store website - I'd checked on the morning of Sept 15, and it wasn't yet available to order. Then checked not too much later in the morning, it was available to order, and I did - so, one might think it would have been pretty high up in their order queue (of new orders for F6B(s) at least). The order was for white waveguide - so not one of the custom colours that might take longer.

Their website said, and still does - "The AsciLab F6B speakers are made to order, and it may take about 2 to 3 weeks from the time of order to delivery."

15 days later now, and the order status says "Before Shipment".

Not complaining - just sayin'.
Update, Oct 1, "Order Shipped".

@AsciLab
More delays for c6b in Europe?
Audiophonics now list end november - early december. I probably going to look for something else. Ordered early August and don't feel like waiting longer.

Got delay confirmation from audiophonics (even delayed to mid-end december, at this point its pretty pointless to expect them this year), so cancelled the order. Too bad, should have snagged the used r3 meta the opportunity was there:(

Ah it was you that could have gotten the Kef's used for similar price. Yeah, it's a shame the wait time blew out.

I was gonna say "the F6B appear available, and probably sound the same."... but just checking the website, they say "sold out" now.

Hopefully you still have something to enjoy music with in the meanwhile, and hope you find something you like in time. Might be that ascilabs are worth the wait.

I got my delay email from them as well, they seem worth it to me so I'll try and wait patiently lol.
Bad time for me to say that a pair of F6B are in a truck not far away and I think I should be able to pick them up today? I have effectively been waiting about ~5 months I think, since the original independent Spino-reviews become public. Keeping expectations tempered. I expect it will still be night, or day, with similar veils. Sound probably won't "open up" all that much more.

Great delivery time once they got going - FedEx, btw, to Australia. Appears they were collected from AsciLab late Wednesday afternoon, and yeah, should be here sometime today (edit - i.e. Friday morning). (Faster than an envelope of "Hi-Fi" earplugs I ordered from within the same country - Will I be disappointed with live sound of Steven Wilson concert? I'm frequently disappointed with live sound. I for one do not want my home audio to sound like "The real thing" in that regard.)

What’s the Hi-Fi earplug? Even in Korea Lol

Ooo, if I have your attention, I'd love it if you could comment on this ;-)

"We are doing QC for every sample of tweeter. Cause we design low XO, and tweeter voice coil height is very short as 1.3mm, it should be very tightly managed to use good condition ones. By our Klippel KA3 we can sort out the bad ones and good ones. and Also we can manage the tolerance too."

Does this mean the tweeter used in the F6B(s) models doesn't get this check/adjustment?

I might have understood that it's somewhat critical to get the ~1khz crossover that the F6B series does have in common with the C6B...

Currently we don’t apply that QC for F series.
F series tweeter has no acoustical issue without it. You can see how low the distortion from the Amir’s review.

Thanks. Understood.

Yes, the measured distortion is very much ok - Edit - spectacularly good - but I wondered if there is some lottery or quality control on individual tweeters that ensures this.

I'm pretty confident I'll be fine - I don't expect to be pushing them near their output limits.

Looking forward to listening to them!

Some in-room meaurements and early impressions...

Haha all good! Happy for you to be getting your order, I'm pretty good at waiting patiently.

Another Aussie, we seem to pop up everywhere!

Re: your impressions post, I'm planning on getting a umik-1 and learning how to use few and eq, or at the least eversolos room correction.

Delivery with audiophonics is through UPS, I would have gone through Ascilabs store if I'd been able to.

Perhaps Australians end up over-represented for our small population.

Yeah, eq has been the biggest, very obvious "Upgrade" I've found. but also sub integration, and having bass from different locations in the room to help fill things in.

But with speakers so nicely sorted as the AsciLabs, I'm likely going to be using a LOT less eq filters than I used to "need" to! Umik is good fun. For sure, will be worthwhile. and be interesting if you mess around with letting Eversolo do whatever it does with correction, vs doing some manual REW-evaluated filters.

The year's going fast! but still, seems you've got a bit more of a wait for C6B yet.

What colour did you choose? (For F6B, I went white case, white waveguide, black grill - I don't really care what things look like, but I like them and the choice)

The time allows me to get some other things sorted before they would arrive, like a new desk.

I went with the all matte white with no grills for the c6b

Crap, a day later and I come across a pair of R3 metas for about the same price, internal struggle time.
As someone else I think said to you, the Kef R3 Meta are probably quite re-sellable. and would be kinda really cool to try them... and even if you were in a position to, keep the AsciLab C6B order, then can compare them head to head in your own space! (Seems like with a bit of eq, they'd end up maybe pretty similar sounding)

(I thought i'd be simple and boring and go all black speakers, but chose white and white waveguide, with black grills. Aesthetics are not a big concern to me, but I do really like them - it's a nice white. and won't show dust)

Nvm turns out it was the OG R3s so will stick to my order :)

Hey there, first post but wanted to thank the forum admin and members for the discovery of that brand! I am a scientist myself and praise objective led approaches. I used to wander in Hifi stores with my father back in the days and I very well remember the esoteric stuff (and people) gravitating there.

Considering the excellent measurments I went for a pair of F6B. I also received my pair last Friday (I am in Europe and ordered directly from Ascilab). Cannot be happier. Went from some pretty obscure Elac bookshelf speakers (BS 123) that were OK for my usage.

Since I have no mean of providing objective measurments I will not comment on the sound (of course I like it, but I also enjoyed my former pair!). They are used in my living room (around 30m2) powered by a Wiim amp pro (at less than half volume level so plenty of room left). Listening online radios, TV through HDMI arc, some streaming (soundcloud mainly) and local library.

One of the main trigger for me was the aesthetics of the speakers. I chose the matte white with orange waveguide and Black grill. I wanted some "pop" ! The rounded cabinet edges are also very nice. A huge upgrade compared to my all black boxes!

Here some real world pictures of that setup if that might help anyone chose this color (or not!)
