Ascend Acoustics CBM-170SE2

I looked at the tweeter choice and groaned, then I looked at the seemingly impeccable Klippel response open-mouthed. Impressive that the upper hundred Hertz range appears to be bereft of the resonances and squiggles that almost all the competition suffers from (audibly too?).
good point .. almost every $500-ish speaker pair I have seen have an upper mid range resonance .. i've been listening to JBL 530s the last week or so and the resonance comes off as a "shouty" f.r. region .. it's a shame too , the 530 is really smooth & refined across most frequencies... the 170se2 should elevate that performance a bit I would think (no "shout" , more clean , refined sound , I would think)... even the dbr 62 has that same resonance that "glares up" the upper mids...this is the thing that Dennis Murphy fixed on the b1 mods he did for me, that resonance is gone , it has the effect of really cleaning up the overall midrange sound...

If I was planning for an ultra budget home cinema, I'd also think about trying to chain DiY-produce something based on the Mechano23's.
This is from far the cheapest state of the art loudspeaker. Now you gotta be crafty of course.

So, UK availability and if so, how much to get them here?
You will have to import them in I imagine as they have no distributors/dealers over here, last time I looked at importing 4 200se2 in it was well over £1000 and that was many years ago.

Yes. But I think it's only worth it if you enjoy the hands on work. I'm not saying if you are good or not at at wood working and working with your hands, but if you actually enjoy it to pass time.

With the odd chance you'd need warranty or simply return them, this is the downside of not having a local rep.
Ascend only sell direct, so the same issue exists in the US. Although domestic return shipping is likely more affordable.

In the US there's also just a not happy with it return it/home trial period of 30 days....not sure that applies to international stuff or not. Often that sort of thing is excluded from warranty, but....

The website does not state that the 30 day return period is excluded for international orders. I would check with Ascend if you are concern.

LOL I've dealt direct here in the US with Ascend for at least 15 years now, have quite a few speakers and never wanted to return any of them :)

ps otoh might be nice to see if the return policy number of days/return costs for warranty or the home trial thing are treated....maybe Dave will elucidate.

If you are willing to pay the international shipping cost, i don't see why it is excluded.

Personally me either but I don't know what Ascend policy is in such a case....as long as buyer is responsible for transport, makes sense.

Happy to clarify... Our return and warranty policies do not change based on customer location. We ship products internationally at least once or twice per week.

It is extremely rare that someone would ever need to return a fully assembled speaker back to us for service. In the rare occasion a problem is encountered, we know our products well enough that with some minor troubleshooting with the customer, we can determine what the suspect component is and we simply send a replacement component. It is no different as to how we approach warranty issues for our domestic customers.

Hope this makes sense!

Good to see you in action here.

I wanted to ask this on email but here it is:
Is there a way safer suggested way to wall mount these new speakers in down firing angle for surround usage mounted higher?

PS. By the way, a happy Sierra-LX owner here

Strange, I thought I posted a reply to this. Happy to hear that your enjoying your LX!

The 1/4-20 threaded insert we use is internally flanged, It would be extremely difficult for it to somehow pull through the back baffle of the speaker cabinet, it would likely break the baffle itself. That stated, for additional security - it is not an issue to drive 1 or 2 wood screws directly into the back baffle to add additional support.

Please feel free to reach out directly.
