Looking for a pick-me-up? Nothing better than a Michael Franti tune, especially this one.

I just discovered this recording artist named Taylor Swift.
Yes, seriously. Of course I had heard of her before but I pay little attention to the over-produced top selling artists of recent years. It all sounds a certain way - dynamic compression, auto tune, et cetera. And then the subject matter of a few of her hits interests me even less.
However, when I heard she had recorded with one of the Dessner twins (always forget which one) and that Bon Iver was also involved, plus cut an acoustic session on the Disney channel, I had to listen. And was blown away not only by 'exile' but also 'folklore' and the 10 minute version of 'Champagne Problems'. So ... a new fan.
On our 2020 best folk and acoustic list, our panel (4 relatives) was unanimous in their #1 choice.

One of the Dessners had previously worked with Lisa Hannigan, who I like even better than Taylor Swift. I'll put up 2 videos. The first is a song from the album she did with Dessner and some might find it too artsy, although I love it. The second is from her album 'Passenger' which is a bit more pop/folk sounding. (Wow, the second vid has 2 million views, so she's catching on .... I hope).

If you watch the second Lisa Hannigan video take note of the guitarist on her right. That's a performer with the un-Google-able name of John Smith, a fine songwriter and extraordinary guitarist. So I'll include an example of each.

Songwriter - (Lisa Hannigan on harmony vocals)

Guitarist -

Very nice homemade, thank you

Also homespun, but changing pace/style entirely sans guitars, here's COUCOU CHLOE (she must like all caps, and probably multi-subs):

And (with possibly faux guitar this time) a nice haunting break-up song from Aussie chick Lil BO WEEP (aka Winona Brooks, another all caps fan):

folklore and evermore are both excellent from start to finish. I own both on vinyl and digital copies. They show a new side of Taylor that I really like. I had never heard the long pond studio sessions. Thanks for posting this. I bought a digital copy today and am watching the video on Disney+ as I write this.

Kamil Manqus. Palestinian avant garde electronica. Not really sure where to pigeonhole it tbh

Alpha Wann - Don Dada Mixtape. My French sucks so I've no idea what they're on about but no hip-hop flows like French hip-hop.

And have you watched the 10 minute song, 'All Too Well'? There's a very brave performance on SNL (it's on youtube, not great sound though) where her voice gets tired and she's flat on a note or two. Refreshing.
On a side note, what's the attraction for you in vinyl? I've been thinking of adding a turntable.

Thanks for digging those up and I'll watch later (on lunch break now). Van Zandt is extremely famous as a songwriter and especially for 'Pancho and Lefty', never performed better than by EmmyLou Harris, IMO.

I just discovered Greta Van Fleet:

Seems like they're the current band people love to hate. I don't get it. They play good old rock & roll. Yes there are shades of Led Zeppelin in their songs and especially in Josh Kiszka's voice but that's no reason to hate them. They rock! (I bet they played some awesome Zeppelin covers in their early days.)
