One of the themes of this thread is folks missing out on artists that have been around a long time and then "discovering" them. I have a story like that.
Somehow I missed the first 15 years of this band, and then spent the next 5 obsessing with them:
Hot Chip. I noticed they get nary a mention in these forums but their music is definitely worthy of the finest gear. Electronic sounds are the core of their music, but there's lots of instrumentation as well, including the steel drums. (Guitarist Al Doyle, splits his time between Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem) Lyrics are upbeat and fun and there's hooks galore. I love em. I hope you might too. It's a big discography, so here's some sample tunes (chronological order).
Live version of this, 'cause it's a slow burn and I hope you give it a chance here and then give the
album version a go...
This is the quintisential hot chip song. From their second album.
If you make it through the first min and half of this the hook will possess you
The video is worthy of all it's WTFness
Their next album is chock full of qality, but I suppose Flutes has got to represent, here's a live version (
album version)
Oddly named track
And finally from the last record
Enjoy Hot Chip!
