One of my friends on Facebook recently introduced me to this group. So far it's not my bag but I'll listen some more. It can take me some time to warm up to new music.

For folks who like jazz. But also metal. But also everything... this is absolutely my favorite band of the moment.

Thank You Scientist - "FXMLDR":

Gosh I love this stuff.

That was somewhat amazing. Some of the sound reminds me of Mr. Bungle (Mike Patton from Faith No More on vocals), which is both nuts and hugely underrated at the same time.

Some lesser known but talented Norwegian female singers - all decent recordings (default for most Norwegian artists :D )

I'm re-discovering Gordon Lightfoot.

This starts with a tune from a Time-Life Country music collection for 1965. Marty Robbins sings "Ribbon of Darkness", turns out to be an early Gordon Lightfoot song that I played constantly earlier this year. It stuck out in that country collection by virtue of being an intelligent Gordon Lightfoot song in the context of "Girl on the Billboard" and "King of the Road". When Gordon Lightfoot showed up on the Johnny Cash TV show, he played "Ribbon of Darkness", knowing it had been a huge country hit four years previous:

But [and also], there's this very recent documentary about Gordon Lightfoot. I'm shocked by how old he looks. But that simply tells me how much I've aged, Gordon is over 80, he's earned the miles on his face:

Net result being re-introduced to an artist I started listening to 50 years ago. This song features a beautiful arrangement from Randy Newman:

Two artists I discovered in the last few years. One rise above anything I've heard, Jennifer Warnes! Just wow!. Listen to her album 'The Well' every song is great and a voice that's beyond wonderful. Here's one song from the album -

Madeleine Peyroux. Another wonderful artist. Canadian singer, discovered on the streets of Paris, Just one of her wonderful songs -

A band I just rediscovered is the Swedish 60's band 'The Shanes'. Here's one of their biggest hits -

I'd better stop now as there are so many great artists out there.

Alas, the display on my computer screen in the USA is as shown in the first (left) image below. Takes a bit of "Reply" and Ctrl-C and mouse-clicking and browser-tab-opening to identify the mystery singer as seen in the second (right) image below. US readers (and probably from some other countries as well) see this quite a bit in this thread and the "Female Vocals" thread, when members in Europe post YT links is my impression (and vice-versa quite likely). As member pavuol has noted before, it would be nice to have the typed names of singer and song in the original post to make tracking them down on sites other than the posted one easier.

Thanks very much :)
I see all three images now, and the Spotify links are active. YouTube links are most convenient and are appreciated if actual moving video is at the link, and they display fine most of the time. But the plaintext saves the day when there are region restrictions.

The production is amazing. And it always is in Scandinavian pop. It's just that the difference in language is too big. If you have some translations, I'd love to hear them again while reading the lyrics.

What's this audio company you work for?

Not sure if any translations exist, but if you search for the lyrics I guess google translate might do a decent job. But I understand that it's a bit weird to not understand the words.

Re audio company: The link is in my signature (don't want to advertise directly in the threads here as I assume that's not according to the rules). :) There's a language option in the upper right corner that allows you to change the site to English if it doesn't default to that. If you peek in the desperate dealers forum there's a thread about the products as well :)

Thank you for the info.

Yes. You're bound to get mad, but the language sounds like one of those that writers invent for the books and movies about elfish/voodoo/ocult/ancient and so on. I do like it, don't get me wrong, but I can't fully experience the song without understanding. I'll try google-translate although in my experience, machine translated is not yet there. It can do neutral, stylistically unmarked speech, but if it's a poem or a poets writing all sorts of hilarity ensues.
