Arendal 1528 high end speakers

They are lower priced than the 1528 so not a replacement
True, though I suspect they will cannibalize the 1528 sales.

1. There is no 1610 Monitor because:

"We decided not to develop a monitor in the 1610 series because the size difference compared to the 1610 Tower would be minimal. Moving from three woofers to two would not result in a meaningfully smaller or easier-to-place product.

Since the 1610 Tower is already much more placement-friendly than the 1528 Tower, a 1610 Monitor would not fill a clearly defined role in the lineup the way the 1528 Monitor does in its series. The 1610 Tower would have a very similar footprint to a hypothetical 1610 Monitor.

For customers who need even more flexibility in placement, the 1610 Bookshelf provides a more suitable and space-efficient option."

2. Which sounds better?
"The 1528 Monitor 8 does have better sound quality than the 1610 Tower, if set up properly. The 1528 Monitor has a better crossover, drivers, and overall construction compared to the 1610 Tower. The 1610 Tower is still an excellent value speaker that performs well above its price point, but does have some sacrifices in terms of components and materials compared to the 1528 Monitors.

To get the most out of the 1528 Monitor 8, the room should be at least 275 square feet with a listening distance of 13 feet.
With the 1610 Tower, it is more flexible and can work well in rooms above 215 square feet. A listening distance of 13 feet is still ideal with the 1610 Tower."

3. As to which series sounds better overall:

"The 1610 series definitely drew inspiration from the 1528 series. They have many similarities between the two. The 1528 series is still the flagship and will have the best overall sound quality. It will have more detail, a smoother frequency response, deeper bass extension, with more premium materials and construction. The 1610 still performs very clarity, wide dispersion, and capable bass extension.

The biggest difference between the two is the overall dimensions and recommended room size. The 1528 series, the towers and monitors in particular, require a large space with a specific listening distance. The 1610 series is designed to work better in medium-sized rooms with typical living constraints."

It makes sense that the speaker wouldn't be "that much smaller", though many a manufacturer does something like this with tower speakers :

Some have same size but with less woofers.

In my case, the choice would be between the 1610 Towers and the 1528 Monitor 8s with stands. The latter is 10cm (4 inches) taller and $750 more expensive.
