Current immersive subs. The “cabinets” in the top corners are closed boxes, each holding a BMS 18n850. The walnut cabinets have a shallow front cabinet but are mostly closed boxes subs. One holds 2x Aurasound NS15-992-4A, the second a JBL 2288H (successor to the 2269H used in, inter alia, Sub18). The middle cabinet is…just a cabinet.

I’ll grant that the LCR mains (JBL 708i) and front heights (JBL 705i) are the opposite of attractive. But I haven’t found anything pretty with the same sound quality and headroom, so…

Where is the driver mounted and in which direction does it fire?

Edit: Referring to each cabinet.

Very clean and tidy install... I quite like it, but I am disturbed by the location of your JBL 705i height speakers. Doesn't the corner placement near the sub "cabinets" cause a lot of issues? Having said that, height speakers are not used all that much.

All drivers fire rearwards. There’s about a 3/4” gap to the rear wall.

The depth is hard to see, and the Triad Orbit mounts are nearly as deep as the speakers. so there’s not that much lip ahead of the heights, I also towed them a little following that pic. I feared I might need some cloth covered OC703 on the inner sides of the subs but it doesn’t seem to be an issue.

Maybe they are narrower than ideal. But they seem to work fine.

Aaaaaah!) Excellent! I don't have enough words to describe how much I love this five cabinets.

Isn't 3/4 inch gap too small? What are the criteria for the gap size?
@dasdoing , please remind me, what is the gap between your subwoofers and the wall?

edit: A very simplified model, say 2 1/4" gray and 3/4" black:

It looks like a big gap isn't needed))

Since this is a threat about the aesthetics of subwoofers, to get this off my chest :-) ….
As I look at pictures of many people’s systems both two channel and Home theatre, virtually every time subwoofers are visible in the set up I feel it notches down the otherwise clean look of the systems. They all look like homely bulky unappealing boxes placed on the floor, and it just feels messy.

When I had subwoofers for a while I tried to make them as discreet as possible. When they were placed behind my stereo speakers, up near the screen wall of the home theatre system, I covered the subwoofers in black velvet so that they would disappear against the black velvet of the screen wall and floor.
That worked fairly well.

Then I also tried placing one of the subwoofers behind my sofa out of eyesight.
Sonic that worked surprisingly well, all things considered. But it still left another subwoofer visible. I tried using just the single subwoofer behind my sofa and again…. Surprisingly good given the circumstances. But in the end, I was glad to get rid of them.

As I mentioned, I was talking about when subwoofers were visible.

But holy crap you gotta admire that guy’s dedication!

I fully agree with your first paragraph.
Closed Back With Zipper - Table Covers Now

Since mine ar floor firing (both the port & the speaker) it is easy for me to put a square Ottoman cloth cover on something like subwoofers (in a color(s) & design that is apropriate for your decor (and dimensions that you need it in (look into places that do slip covers for Ottoman's & such, give them you dimmensions and enjoy). Maybe get a few with different colors & dimensions to change it up once in a while.:
