hello all,
I have had a Arcam AVR 750 (receiver) for 5 years and it is excellent and much better than the high end yamaha-marantz receivers I have had/have. As much as it is excellent for home theater sound ,it sounds very good but not as good in terms of separation and holographic sound I used to get with my ADCOM GFA 555 amp which I used for two channel. I am now wondering how to get better sound if I buy a 2 channel amp and use the preouts on the Arcam. Wondering which amp would make the Arcam sound better for music? Budget is around 1K to 2K new or used. Thought about Emotiva, Outlaw, Rotel products but wonder if it will make a difference or do I need to go for a higher end amp? Arcam puts out 120 Watts per channel. Thanks for looking..(Speakers B&W CM9 and CM Center)

Did you want to stay class AB amps? If not Class D amps from purifi and hypex are considered state of the art right now. Buckeye audio receives high praise on this forum. Much better bench measurements than emotiva, outlaw or rotel and probably cheaper too.

I am fine with A/B right now thinking of Monolith, and/or Outlaw amps 2 channel or mono blocks. I have checked out the Buckeyes also but for Value Outlaw and Monolith seems to be better, thanks for your input

If by value you mean watts per dollar you may be buying distorted wattage instead of higher SINAD amps with hypex and purifi.

I should have said my plan is to buy 2 channel amp or 3 channel for the fronts only and use receiver for surround. I am wondering if I need 200 watts for front CM9 (200 Watts RMS) or 100 Watts am will make a difference in sound. As per Signal to Noise (SINAD) and/or THD goal is less than .08 THD. Thinking about Outlaw 2200 which is a monoblock 200 watts. As per value the Monolith 2100 has a great price but dont know if 90Watts will make a difference? thanks for inputs
