Apple Digital Master vs CD Redbook

Has anyone here compared the "Apple Digital Master" format to CD Redbook standard. The Apple Digital Master stamp claims to be 24 bit/44.1 kHz. So if you buy an album via iTunes with the "Apple Digital Master" stamp, does it download as ALAC or AAC? Thanks in advance.

It’s a set of best practices for mastering engineers to follow. I’m doubtful it makes any real difference but it’s theoretically better.
