APE free converter

There is an ape to wav free converter and then flac can convert it to flac. On which platform are you?
Ffmpeg should do that out of the box too

XLD (X Lossless Encoder) is a macOS GUI wrapper for those lossless encoders, with tagging capabilities. It is my most trusted encoder because it is very optimized and never crashes. Also, it is regularly maintained to catch up with newer versions of encoders. It can also fetch metadata online for CD rips. Below is the examples for FLAC encoder and its online metadata database settings.
edited: For some proprietary codecs e.g. AAC, ALAC, etc., XLD uses Core Audio (built into Apple OSes), which, according to Hydrogenaudio Wiki is the best quality AAC encoder. The AAC encoder in FFmpeg is FDKAAC.
