Hello,
I am a newcomer living in Korea.

I would like to know if anyone uses the KEF R3 Meta with Marantz's Stereo 70s AVR and how the combination works.

I am considering purchasing KEF's R3 META speakers and would like to know your thoughts on using them with the Stereo 70s AVR. I am aware that Amir's recent review of the Cinema 70s was not very optimistic. Still, in Korea, this product's price and back panel configuration are very appealing, so I am having a hard time deciding.

The Metas need more power and a better DAC to sing. With the Stereo 70...they work and play music. With the Model 30 and CD50N...ridiculous! Unfortunately you pay for the privilege.

It's probably fine at anything but really high playback levels (where the amp section might strain to drive the low-ish impedance of the R3 metas). I doubt the DAC section makes any audible difference.

However, keep in mind you're often paying more for less when you buy these slimline receivers instead of their bigger brothers. The slimline receivers cost more but often have less power. A better buy in terms of performance per dollar would be a Denon AVR at the same price range. I do understand the appeal of the small form factor and the cleaner looking rear panel of this Marantz compared to an AVR. So it just depends on your priorities.
