Anyone Review Topping D90III Discrete / D90 III Sabre yet ?

I stream from a macmini (M1) and find the quality of the USB input quite good. What do you use to get the I2S output? Maybe it's time for me to upgrade my source...
I would like to say that with this connection option you lose up to 30-40% of the sound quality potential...

Ok, so what can I do - use the DDC to get USB signal from Mac and return I2S to topping? I stream mainly from Tidal and wouldn't want to spend too much money on this, however, 40% sounds convincing....

There is no difference in sound quality:

You could use a DDC like a Gustard U18 or an SMSL PO100 Pro to convert from USB to I2S, but just be prepared to not be able to hear any difference.

What file player do you have on your computer?

It may sound convincing but it’s complete nonsense. There’s no audible difference.
I absolutely agree, there is no difference with Tidal and the like, I wouldn’t spend such amounts, I don’t understand, this is all at the level of Internet radio...

Nonsense.

Thats not what I meant. I meant there’s no audible difference between USB and I2S no matter what the source
Seriously?
Okay, I don't want to have these discussions here, I don't have time for it.

I think that my test with Topping D90III Discrete will be useful for those who want to know something about the quality of this rather unusual DAC.
I also really hope that my message will be read by people from Topping Audio.
I also want to thank them for making a discrete 1-Bit DAC, which is apparently much more promising than R2R DACs.

You have seriously come to the wrong place to spread this nonsense. All DACs sound the same

No difference between usb i2s aes, spdif when I borrowed one. None at all. Playing back redbook.

I installed new software, and the sound quality is much better now. The Topping D90III Discrete needs additional amplification on the XLR output. With my Gustard P26 and the +6db preamplification enabled, the sound quality is fantastic. I'd compare it to the good sides of a 4499 mixed with the analog sound of a tda1543. So, today I'm really impressed with the quality.

When will we test it, Amir??
This is exactly the device that needed to be tested right away, and not these already boring and useless R2R like Centaurus. In discrete technology, you can do really well only in 1-Bit DAC technology. Resistor matrix are extremely unstable for audio conversion...

Of course, in a lab environment this is expected.
I use a Pi2AES / Raspberry Pi5 and can simultaneously stream to USB, AES, COAX, and I2S inputs.
These can be switched fairly quickly and the all sound a bit different.

There chain looks very different than a lab. Roon. Should they sound the same, yes, do they, no.
I doubt there is any interest in this topic because no blind tests etc.
There is also a bias here where is it important to have a science based metric, I’m for that and support the site.

Many great things are measured, but not all things are measured.
Even temporal issues can occur, where new firmware changes the device performance.
I reported 2 such issues on the D90 III Discrete that are now fixed on 0.50 and 0.51 firmware updates: the I2S level and level drop in 0.49.

I supposed I could just find the review and lost all interest, it cannot be wrong, look at those measurements :p

Why don’t you send it in for him to test?

Honestly though, I don’t see the point. We already know Topping DACs have exemplary measurements (and therefore all sound identical) do we really need to see another one?

Actually, I2S is WORSE, as it was never meant to be transmitted in a cable, ONLY in traces on the PCB.

I wonder whom invented that stupid thing (I2S on a cable).

I wonder whom invented that stupid thing (I2S on a cable).
It's a chain reaction.
It started with DIYing ESS9018 and the new USB>I²S modules that went out at about the same time (XMOS, Amanero, etc) .

From then on traces became short wires (<5 cm was recommended) , then got longer

What people do not get is that the external USB>I²S "bridges" are the exact replica to what already exists internally in a DAC.
