I’m currently using this one, but I’d like to know if anyone has any recommendations. It’s hard to discern quality between all the ones on Amazon, including that one. Can’t even find what DAC chip it’s using. And I’ve tried others that have noise issues when receiving/transmitting power to my iPad.

It can be a larger dongle, just not something meant for a desktop

What about the “Cirrus hump”?

I guess beggars can’t be choosers. It does look like JCALLY does better than other brands on average in this regard. I’ll try to do some more more research on that particular SP30 but it’s surely better than the random Amazon ones I’ve used.

wish it didn’t use a right-angle usb-c though, that might be a hard to use with a case. Maybe I a small usb-c extender would be a solution

Fiio KA17

I have one and it works well. Has a separate usb c port for power. It gets warm.

If it was for stationary use a USB-C hub could help means that any dongle type DAC can be utilised.

edit … and there is wireless charging as another option. Mobile and stationary

I have this one. I really like it:

I bought it on Aliexpress for $16.57 back in April. Evidently it must be popular as the best price now is $29.20. Still, it is a good value for the performance it provides.

The JM20 MAX doesn't have a port to connect the charger to though - that's the less common thing that the OP is asking about.

Perhaps I misunderstand what the OP is looking for. The JM20 MAX receives its power in via it's USB C connector, which I thought is what the OP is looking for. With it, there is no need for a separate charging port, and I'm not sure why someone would want that for a dongle.

Seems so. To my understanding, the OP wants to have audio output while charging the host device at the same time, all over a single type C port. That's the challenge.

Personally I would still prefer a solution with some sort of Type C USB hub or port replicator that can charge the host device, as that would mean that any old dongle DAC would do. Replacing a specialty device on short notice if it ever breaks could be a bit of a headache.

I just tried a Fiio Snowsky Tiny model A which is supposed to do that. It failed. It performed both functions but not together. I have an OTG pigtail that works for this on Android. It's an import cable that's under $10. I plug my dongle into one leg of the cable and the power into the other. The only inconvenience is remembering which leg is which. You can get them anywhere you can get OTG cables. I got mine from the giant internet retailer with the Wonder Woman name. I'm sure Ali Express and other sources have them too.

Indeed - but I've yet to find one. This one's close, but has a built in audio interface instead of another type C port, and I get the impression the PD port is only for PD though I could be wrong.

Usually they're bigger, like this one:

The Ugreen 60165 is very compact.

I have an OTG cable that does this. It has 2 legs, one for power and one for data. I use it a lot with my tablet. It was cheap, under $10. I think you can get them any place that sells OTG cables.

Works with everything. I use it with both dongle DAC and controller to charge phone while listening/gaming. Cheap and practical. Available everywhere in various variants.

Biggest advantage: choose any DAC you like, disregard power in.

Sure is.

That's exactly what it is.
First 3 hits in my search say USB-C to headphone and charger adapter. And searching for 60165 at uk.ugreen.com (which I get redirected to if I try any other ugreen subdomain) gets no results.

Exactly what I have but a different color. Cheap and works.
