I've been meaning to get this set up at home with Mopidy as the server.

It looks to be a pretty feature rich alternative to Roon, but there is very little discussion about it on most of the regular audio enthusiast sites..

Good to that it's a Spotify client. Doesn't appear to support Tidal however

I could not find any info on what formats/resolutions it will handle or whether it supports multichannel files.

Hard to compete with Roon with free software. Likely their metadata is just showing Wiki or something which is not as good as what Roon has.

You might be surprised: there are a handful of current freeware/freemium applications (client, server, and standalone player) that access Last.fm, MusicBrainz, Discogs.com, and Wikipedia for their metadata and biographies, and these services are very comprehensive. They present this in a very user-friendly manner as well. However, their data mapping may not be as extensive as Roon's.
