Any good passive speakers under $3k with a woofer size bigger than 6.5?

I can stick my ears right against my Buchardt A500s and Kef LS50/LSX while on w/ no audio and they are dead silent.
Just looking up " A500 Hiss" comes up with about a hundred reviews talking about the hiss including ones from this website. Maybe you got lucky or they fixed it.

It was an early batch issue. That's why I know it's dead silent because I checked right after taking delivery.

Maybe I'll try them again later on if I find nothing. Trying out numerous speakers of different brands that all have a hiss rubs you the wrong way

Quested LT10 would meet your qualifications as well if you can find a used pair, AMT tweeter with a pro 10" woofer

I definitely had that problem with cheaper pro audio actives in the past for home studio use, but really, the Kefs (IIRC the earlier batches may have had issues) and the Buchardts as designed for the task of home audio are virtually silent when no audio is playing - though that could be the case of the DSP powering off the amps. I imagine forum studio monitor champs such as Genelec would be relatively quiet as well.

You might want to consider testing more speakers to better understand whether "woofer size" really is as important as you think it is.
I might add - nothing will replace a good subwoofer! :)

Honestly the hiss never bothered me with my monitors, and it's not a that much of a deal breaker that I'd buy passives instead of actives just because of it.

I'm not knowledgable about speakers. Maybe woofer size is not even what I'm looking for. All I know is based on the speakers I've tested the bigger the woofer the better it sounded so I was curious if there any speakers for under $3k with a woofer over 6.5?
The Golden Ears Triton 3--$$3000. on the nose but I suspect if you haggled.... Anyhow a very long throw 9x5 woofer (equivalent to about a 13.5" round woofer) that is coupled to two 4.5x8" passive radiators that are supposed to mimic the physics of a transmission line--no idea if they do. But lots of surface area. And driven by an onboard 800w amplifier--so that is huge premium.

I have heard the bigger Triton 2's and they have bigger and more bass drivers that uses the same tech--and the bass was every bit as powerful and deep as a 750.00 stand alone subwoofer.

Still looking. I've had the M16's for almost a year now and haven't found anything better in my price range.
So, if you can't find better than the M16 but still would like something more you might consider the Tower version, is it the F36, I believe it's within your budget.

JBL L82 Classsic, $2,750. Question: are 2 6.5" LF drivers really the same as a single 8"?

Closer to nine (8.75) based on assumption of using every cm of the diameter to move air. The factor is sqrt(2), i.e. two tens is 10 x 1.41=14.1

I'm not thinking about total piston size.
