Why passive and not active?
hisssssssssssssssssssssssssWhy passive and not active?
hisssssssssssssssssssssssss
Just looking up " A500 Hiss" comes up with about a hundred reviews talking about the hiss including ones from this website. Maybe you got lucky or they fixed it.I can stick my ears right against my Buchardt A500s and Kef LS50/LSX while on w/ no audio and they are dead silent.

Maybe I'll try them again later on if I find nothing. Trying out numerous speakers of different brands that all have a hiss rubs you the wrong wayIt was an early batch issue. That's why I know it's dead silent because I checked right after taking delivery.

I might add - nothing will replace a good subwoofer! You might want to consider testing more speakers to better understand whether "woofer size" really is as important as you think it is.
The Golden Ears Triton 3--$$3000. on the nose but I suspect if you haggled.... Anyhow a very long throw 9x5 woofer (equivalent to about a 13.5" round woofer) that is coupled to two 4.5x8" passive radiators that are supposed to mimic the physics of a transmission line--no idea if they do. But lots of surface area. And driven by an onboard 800w amplifier--so that is huge premium.I'm not knowledgable about speakers. Maybe woofer size is not even what I'm looking for. All I know is based on the speakers I've tested the bigger the woofer the better it sounded so I was curious if there any speakers for under $3k with a woofer over 6.5?
So, if you can't find better than the M16 but still would like something more you might consider the Tower version, is it the F36, I believe it's within your budget.Still looking. I've had the M16's for almost a year now and haven't found anything better in my price range.
I'm not thinking about total piston size.Closer to nine (8.75) based on assumption of using every cm of the diameter to move air. The factor is sqrt(2), i.e. two tens is 10 x 1.41=14.1
