Are there recent updates for the ANTHEM STR PRE?

Not that I'm aware of, but what updates would it even need? It was so far ahead of it's time, I'd buy it today happily. Seems like other brands are only just finally starting to offer units with similar options and capabilities of that STR. That one will be a tough act to follow on an update in my view. A new (better?) DAC no doubt, but that's more marketing than anything audible as we have had transparent DACs for decades now. I'm not audio engineer, but seems to me going to be tough to improve on beyond some minor tweaks.

AVM90 is better in a few VERY specific situations. Really fast transitions to silence and back just sound better on the AVM 90 then the STR pre. It's very few songs I've noticed this one. So I'm mostly happy with my STR.

One, in bold, what? Two, they are apples/oranges units, one 2ch the other multi. My comment is as it compares to other 2ch offerings out there.

Well AVM90 was advertised as a big upgrade for music and over the AVM60 it was. I'm guessing there are other 2ch that are as good as the AVM 90 but they don't have arc.

None do, that's one of various reasons the STR will be difficult to update in my view. Some other 2ch units do offer other room correction options (e.g, Dirac, etc), and that's fairly recent in the 2ch sphere. The STR is so configurable, along with the ARC, it's difficult to even find 1:1 comparable products, and what exists is recent developments and even still, they usually don't have all the STR offers. Now maybe some would argue they don't need/want a lot of it, but that's moot.

Agree, but I like to keep software up to date.
