Anthem STR pre-amp

If you disable the crossover then fronts play full range. Also signal is sent to the subs, but what signal is it? Full range? Meaning the sub plays to its upper limit?

My sub has a low pass filter so it doesn't play too high, but you can set a low pass filter in the STR.

Yes I know I can, my question is rather when the crossover is off, is the signal send to the subs full bandwidth. I am guessing yes...

I have had my Anthem STR pre+amp combo now for close to one month. I treasure every minute I listen to it, it is amazing! It has met and vastly exceeded my expectations in every way.

Is there any way to get sub out with no bass management without converting to digital?
I really want to keep it all analogue but cannot figure out how to get even a full range signal from sub out.
Help!

No, you have to enable A to D conversion, then in bass management, set the crossover to off. This outputs full range to the subs.

Interesting...I'll try that and turn down the tone sweeps to as low as I can get. That would make sense and I never even considered it.
Profile 3, here we come.
Thank you very much!

But I DO NOT want to digitize

Hello everybody, I'm considering the STR pre for a 2-channel audio system. When used with one (or two) subwoofer, is it possible to set a high pass filter for the main speakers?

I just looked through the menu and in ARC and I don't see any option for high pass, just a crossover which will work similar.

You can set a crossover, which will both high-pass the mains and low-pass the subs. The ARC application gives you quite a bit of control over the shape of both curves.

I’ve already posted this question in another thread, but with no responses, so I'll try also here...

As I said I'm considering the Anthem STR pre for my 2 channel audio system by virtue of its ARC functionality (which I would use for subwoofer integration, and some room correction). Now, a possibile alternative would be something like the miniDSP; this would leave more freedom in the choice of a pre, as it wouldn’t need to have room correction on board.
So my question is: which of the two solutions would you recommend? How’s the DSP Dirac in terms of “user friendliness” (easy to setup, doesn’t need particular user experience and so on…)?
Thank you for any advice you might provide…

Ultimately much depends on how much you enjoy tweaking, etc.
The Anthem ARC is a easy GUI walk-thru to get the DRC program working to it's best.
The miniDSP will have a steep learning curve and require more user input.
In the end we are talking about 2 different ways to create crossover, response curves, and timing correction.
Which will sound "better" is now fully up to you and how you input corrections match your needs.

Having used both an Anthem STR and miniDSP Studio, I agree with what @Sal1950 said. Even though I am a pretty tech-savvy person, I found the MiniDSP considerably more cumbersome than the Anthem STR to set up, keep current, and use. Anthem has perfected its user interface through the years: it is clear and convenient, and Anthem even lets you save DRC settings and results into a PDF file for reference, which I found tremendously helpful. Besides its DRC, the STR has digital tone controls that can be used while music is playing, a feature I really appreciated.

Software and firmware updates of the Anthem are trivial and done over the network. Updating the miniDSP always required me to take out the manual to figure out where to get the updates and how to install them, and to update miniDSP's own firmware/software and Dirac's DRC software (for miniDSP products that supprt Dirac) separately. To install miniDSP firmware updates, I had to unplug whatever was plugged into the unit's USB input and connect a laptop instead.

I second these comments and can’t think of a better preamp than the STR.
As it happens I’m selling a 2 channel setup that includes an STR in perfect condition. It’s listed on Audiomart and I’m preparing to list here at ASR as well. Send me a PM if interested. Other components include an AHB2 and 226be speakers.
