Another subjective opinion on Aiyima A07

Hi,

This topic is just to share my experiences. You will not find measurements, grahps and calculations here, pure subjective impression.

I received my Aiyima A07 today, all the way to Germany from China with LM4562 ops pre-installed. Bought on Ali from AiyimaTechnology Store for 87 euros with LM4562 and power brick. Expected to pay customs tax, but for whatever reason did not have to. Funny enough, I could buy it on Amazon.de here, but it only sells NE5532 version; I wanted a full upgraded kit from the factory (later on that), hence ordered from Ali.

1. The packaging is extremely simple, but thorough.

2. Power brick is 32V 5A, average quality. The wire and plug are quite thin but okay, housing plastic is also cheap but okay. There is an indicator which lights up green when the unit is operational.

2. Assembly quality of my unit is good, or even very good. Volume knob is properly centered, does not scratch or rub in any way against the housing, rotates smoothly. Power switch is properly centered, too; it goes on and off with a satisfactory click, but the sound it makes is a bit hollow-ish. No scrtaches on the outside.

3. I paid attention that the warranty seal was already broken. My guess is that ops were rolled later by someone on the sales side, which I do not personally favour. The whole reason to order from Ali was that I wanted a finished product right from the factory, with a warranty of course.

4. To make sure LM4562s were installed, I've opened the case. LMs are in place, everything is very clean and tidy, but... I found a small piece of metal shaving between radiator fins on the amplifier chip, right where the screws are. Maybe I'm too picky, but I wouldn't want that shaving to accidentally end up between any two pins when the amp is running. After removing it and making sure the rest is fine, I closed the case.

Photos are attached if you're interested, internals too.

Report on sound quality will follow later, once I have time to hook it up to the speakers.

Thank you for your impressions of build quality (including warranty sticker!) as those sorts of comments may be useful, but be aware that subjective sound quality impressions of devices like amplifiers and DACs tend not to be highly valued here unless performed under controlled listening conditions. But the general consensus here is that well-designed amplifiers and DACs tend to sound pretty much the same aside from matters including gain and noise, unless driven into distortion.

Assuming identical gain and no other issues such as oscillation (which you may encounter if using high-speed devices in circuits not optimized for them), I'd think that A07 amplifiers equipped with LM4562 and NE5532 would sound exactly the same.

When I touch the A07 chassis, I can feel there's an electrical potential on it. It does not depend on the power switch position and disappears only when the unit is unplugged from the wall socket. Haven't yet measured the exact voltage, but is that normal for that model?
