In the past few years I’ve tried more than 10 DACs. The last one was the Newontech 07SE, before that the Merason Frérot + POW. Now I’ve bought a second-hand ANK Kit 4.1 LE. It brought a completely new flow to my system.
My system consists of a Denafrips Arce streamer, Bladelius Thor 2, KLH Model 5 speakers, all Zen Acoustics cables, and Supra power cables.
So, what is different? If the DACs I had before were playing recordings, this one plays music.
I first heard it on an Odeon Helix with Cerat Audio electronics. The first thing that struck me was how instruments flowed out of the horn speakers… wow! And now, with the KLH Model 5, I hear something very similar.
Voices are natural, the bass is great, instrument separation is excellent, with plenty of air. At low volume the music has more body, and at high volume my ears don’t get tired. It’s great for long listening sessions.
I’ve just ordered a full set of NOS tubes. If you have a chance to hear this DAC, do it.
