Android DAP as a stand-alone Roon station? (vs iPad mini)

I've had this idea of wanting a stand-alone, stationary Roon endpoint to use with wired headphones. I think one of the cheaper Android DAPs would be well-suited for this but I don't have a lot of experience with Android and I'm concerned about quirks in playback, sleep/wake behavior and limited update windows. I'm not super concerned about battery life, amp power (Elegias are my main headphones) or storage so something affordable like the Hiby Digital M300 could work great. Has anyone else done anything like this?

I guess the other competing option I'm thinking about is an iPad Mini with a hub and USB DAC/amp (probably my Qudelix 5k). This is appealing because I mostly use Apple stuff elsewhere but I don't need the iPad for anything else, more hubs and cables, etc. plus the price would be much more, even shopping refurb. Ideally I'd just like a screen I can use the Roon app on and plug headphones into.

Does anyone have thoughts or experience doing something similar?

If you use Apple stuff elsewhere then I figure you have an iPhone?, why not use that with the roon app and your Qudelix 5k, or a £20 dongle dac/amp for less bulk

The point is to have a dedicated device with notifications and the like turned off, I don't have an extra phone lying around otherwise I'd probably do what you're talking about.
