Andrew Jones’s new speaker brand - Jones and Cerreta

I think this notion kind of went out the window with ascilab stuff.
I think it will interesting to see how these low crossed tweeters work out. For adult critical listening no problem, but if any of these speakers will find their way into a young persons party situation thing may end badly.

Given the MSRP, that'll be a Risky Business kind of situation, methinks.

Oh that's a non-existent scenario. No one under the age of 40 is buying these speakers for both cost an aesthetic reasons.

Field coils, tubes, vinyl: a trifecta of ancient tech whose flaws still somehow manage to charm certain ancient dudes ...
Unlike tubes and vinyl, field coils can actually offer objective technical advantages, specifically the ability to adjust the motor factor (BL) via the excitation current. This allows the drive system to be directly tuned to the enclosure and target parameters.
Whether the additional effort (power supply, power loss, complexity) is worth it is another matter entirely.

Yes but in this case I didn't see any obvious adjustment. If it's not I don't see the point, seems like a novelty adding cost as opposed to a deal breaker with a competitive design.

Rob :)

I agree tubes and vinyl are flawed but outside of cost and energy use what are the flaws of field coils? As far as I know they only have technical advantages of a stronger and more consistent and more adjustable magnetic field and they don't degrade over time like permanent magnets. The cost and energy use probably makes them impractical but field coils don't really belong in the same category as vinyl records and tubes.

Just adding clarification, but Andrew is still working at Mofi AND working with a company he is partners in.
I was surprised when he said that and that he can share parts/designs between them!

MoFi probably figures they can get some engineering out of it, if I had to guess.
