And Amir locks another thread because he cannot entertain any other opinion than his own....

It’s my view that:

1. All of this just goes to reinforce the wisdom of refraining from politics and religion discussions on an audio (or other enthusiast) forum. This is virtually always the result. It’s never ever good.

But also:

2. I find outrage at Amir’s locked thread to be more of a Tempest in a teapot. It’s not like he has turned ASR into a mouthpiece for his political views. That one particular thread was a single thread in a forum absolutely swamped with the usual audio talk, and one could choose to not read it. It’s up to us how we react, and if people start leaving the forum the damage to the forum is as much about how they decided to react as anything else.

Personally, even though sure I can see the basis for charges of hypocrisy, I choose not to melt down about it. Many of us have been hypocritical here before (including some have argued Amir on other subjects).
I don’t think this should be a basis for catastrophe. It’s like an argument with my wife: do I stay picking on a moment of her hypocrisy and keep blowing it up until the marriage blows up? Or step back gain some perspective and move on, able to enjoy all the wonderful elements of the marriage?

I am choosing the latter. ASR is a great place overall.

I'm not going anywhere, nothing like ASR to go to.

Just like I can choose what video or song I want to hear next - I can choose what threads I want to read. It was a stretch to read and comment on this one.

But give a guy a break -- all he did was complain about the tariffs.
It is his site so he can do as he pleases but what is frustrating for me is:

1. He broke his own rule of no politics. To me this site was a refuge from all the others on the internet but no more.
2. He allows no discussion of dissenting opinions regarding his pet issue. On one hand I like that as it would no doubt devolve into a no win brawl, but how is it that a site that calls itself "Science Based" then bans discussions?

The root of the problem and the solution are simple. Restore "no politics" for all posts made on the site.

Both WSJ and CNBC are obviously left leaning.
On what planet is that true? WSJ is owned by international right-wing icon Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. and CNBC is owned by Comcast, a typically avaricious, bottom line oriented American corporation. In the context of the rest of the "advanced" countries, the only truly "left leaning" media outlets originating in North America are online.

Despite the nature of this thread, still falls under moderation policies. So just a quick reminder to please avoid interjection of any bend of politics into the dialog.

A few notably offending posts have been deleted and warnings issued.

Thanks for your cooperation!

You know - there is a big problem. If Amir has not enough knowledge in specific cases and uses wrong test method (I would name noise of MM preamps with the cartridge, for one), he is NEVER willing to admit that. This is supposed to be a technical forum at high engineering level. The facts and evidence, as well as deep knowledge is needed. However, subjective opinion wins. The fact that Amir is the owner of the forum does not mean he is always right, in technical, engineering points. No one is. Some of us know better something, the others something else. The field is too wide to be covered by a single person.
Or when he does one of his "debunking" tests...
He tests all sorts of USB/power common mode filters and isolation transformers without even applying any common mode noise to the filter — just to "prove" that the filter doesn't work. Of course it doesn't filter something that isn't there in the first place!

He also seems unaware of the pseudo-floating, unbalanced input of his analyzer, which is undocumented in terms of when and how it's used. He doesn't acknowledge that this setup is not representative of most home audio systems, where common mode currents are typical and completely normal.

with this lack of understanding about common mode currents, he also "debunks" various audio cables.

For example, he claimed to prove there's no inductive coupling between a mains C13 power cord and a cheap RCA cable he coiled up.

But — the C13 power cord wasn’t even plugged in!

I explained that without current, there's no induction. Even if there were, the way the cable was coiled (bifilar) would cancel the field out. Only common mode current would generate a magnetic field, and since it wasn’t plugged in, there was no common mode current.

He replied that technically there's still current due to capacitive coupling inside the wire — and paraphrased, basically said that acknowledging this would "fuel the bad subjectivists."

Agreed, but it's 4am in Australia. Easy to poke the bear while he sleeps!

Good point. Without meaningful engagement by either party and waning moderator coverage, am giving this thread a rest for now.
