Hi all,

I'm as much interested in reducing sound I don't want to protect my ears and sanity as I am in amplifying sounds I do want. For this reason hearing protection and sound proofing are subjects I've been looking into, but there is even less objective data available in these realms than for audio reproduction.

I've just come across an "high-end car audio system" company named ResoNix who have provided some apparently "independent testing data" on different materials used for "sound deadening" in cars. The independent tester is another enthusiast active on forums related to this subject, I haven't looked into exactly how independent he is but seems promising.

Beyond this is also an article on How Sound Deadening Works which I haven't read entirely but seems to include some science-based explanations.

Whether you're interested in car audio or just some acoustic-related subjects in general thought some of you might find something of interest, or spark a convo!

Cheers :)

There is a decent amount of objective data out there, but it's often proprietary. The rest is often in books or journals. Less free measurements out there for the plebes to look at. :D

Two different subjects, involved:
1] Soundproofing ~ keeping in-room sounds in and keeping outside sounds out.
Just like in watches, which are no longer waterproof they are now water resistant, there is never affordable soundproofing.
2] Damping or absorbing sounds in a room.
