Hi guys im new to the diy speaker world. Im looking to build a Bluetooth boombox and want to put a sub along with some mid range drivers and some tweeters. Can you bridge the sub side of a 2.1 channel amp to get more power to the sub? If not how do you incorporate a separate mono amp for the subwoofer? Thanks

Which amp do you have in mind? The sub out of many 2.1 amps is already bridged.

No, bridging requires 2 amplifiers (or 2 out-of-phase output stages). There are ways to bridge a regular stereo it make one bridged amp, so you could use a 4-channel amp and convert one pair of channels to make the bridged sub amp. It's not unusual for people to use 2 identical stereo "bridgeable" amps and use one in bridged-mode for the sub. There are pro Crown amps with that feature as well as built-in filters for so you don't need a separate crossover.

Or as somebodyelse implied, there are already-bridged amplifiers. Or if you buy a pre-made 2.1 amp, the sub output probably already has more power and a built-in crossover.

Assuming that you are building a crossover, mixers are made with summing amplifiers and it's super-easy to built one with an op-amp (if you know how to build electronics). Or you can make a fixed-passive mixer with 2 resistors (even easier). (You should NEVER simply "short" the left & right signals together!)

Have a look at Sure Electronics amps:

There are various options, some with Bluetooth, DSP, and possibilities for 2.1 setups. Various webshops sell these, so probably no need to order there directly (get your local warranty).

IIRC Dayton have rebranded some of the Sure/Wondom JAB models. Tinysine have some with DSP and Bluetooth too. If you intend to use battery power rather than mains then the JAB boards would be ideal - they're designed for this use case and there's a battery accessory board available with holders for 18650 cells.

I dont necessarily have anything in mind right now im just doing the research portion of things and making a list of possible components.
