Hi, :)

In order to power my two front speakers and my center speaker, I am hesitating between two amplifiers:

1 x AUDIOPHONICS HPA-T450ET (3 channels) https://www.audiophonics.fr/fr/amplificateurs-de-puissance/audiophonics-ap300-m450et-p-20210.html
or
3 x AUDIOPHONICS AP300-M450ET (1 mono channel) https://www.audiophonics.fr/fr/amplificateurs-de-puissance/audiophonics-hpa-t450et-p-20209.html

My question: Wouldn't one independent power supply (HYPEX SMPS600N400) for one module be better than a single HYPEX SMPS1200A400 (admittedly more powerful) for three modules?

Especially when I look at Apollon amplifiers, which are equipped with more generous HYPEX SMPS1200A400 or SMPS3000A400 power supplies for the same module(s)

In the case of configurations such as Apollon amplifiers, what does a more powerful/oversized power supply offer? More current?

Sorry for my stupid questions.

;)

My speakers are:
Triangle Quartet Genese
Triangle Voce Genese
Triangle Dipolar DIY (Titus + Heyda EX assembly)
Triangle Météor 0.5 TC

In bench test in continuous load, yes. In real life home theater setup with a low pass cut redirect to an active subwoofer, any of those will have plenty of power which will not be a limit.
So I would say, look at price, look, build quality, inputs (RCA/XLR), features (12V trigger).
IMO mono is very much overkill. If you have the money and the space, why not though.
I would question the 1200W vs 3000W power supply for 3 channels. On paper, you need a 1800W PS for 3 channels purifi at full power spec.
Their max power is 510W@2ohms with 87% efficiency, so require 600W of PS, so 1800W PS for 3 channels.
With 1200W PS, it will limit you at 300-350W per channel, so 0.5db of difference, in the worst 2 ohms case...
Now that audiophonics provide a 2000W PS on some other amps, you can ask them if they can replace the hypex 1200W PS with their 2000W one. But honestly, just for the sake of peace of mind.

Hi :)

Thanks for your reply.
But after reading and researching several times, I revised my choices.

I went with two amplifiers to power the front L C R stage
  • An AUDIOPHONICS HPA-S500ET based on Purifi 1ET7040SA (for my L & R)
  • An AUDIOPHONICS AP300-M450ET (mono) but with a Purifi 1ET6525SA base (for the center)

There you go.

This is overkill.
The loudspeaker datasheet says 120w power handling.

I'm French...
How much wattage can you get out of a French power outlet/circuit breaker? (Voltage x Current)

In the U.S. we usually have 120V x 15A =1800W, or there are sometimes 20A outlets/circuits And we have 240V (at maybe 30A) for clothes dryers, ovens, and electric water heaters, but not the standard outlets/sockets.

In Europe, I think you get more power...

Of course amplifiers aren't 100% efficient but with music and normal program material we don't need full power continuously. The capacitors in the power supply store power for short-term peaks and circuit breakers can take several seconds to blow depending on the amount of over-current. ...If I had a 3000W amplifier I'd never be using that much power and if I did my speakers and ears would blow before the circuit breaker! :D
