One could argue that pop/rock is the most serious genre, since that's where most of the money is, and where there's presumably the most to lose.
It's not really the same, as you can choose amongst many performances/recordings of the same composition, while there's almost no competition in popular music: you take what you're given and you shut up (and you hold on to it dearly, because the remaster will be even more awful).

You would think. Interestingly though, it seems that many classical music shops use B&W 800 series, which look to be not super neutral. @tuga started a thread about it here somewhere, but I don't remember the name of the thread.

Well we know one of the best classical studios out there(2L) extensively uses Genelecs, so perhaps the others are just wrong ;)

Genelec are ubiquitous, right, but they're not the only ones in good classical studios and broadcat. As I wrote above, La Maison de la radio in Paris uses also ATC, Neumann, Cabasse, and custom made monitors for their main listenings. La Philarmonie de Paris uses custom made Amadeus amplified DSP speakers (very good - and expensive- pro french brand). In Germany, for instance in teldex berlin, you find Genelec, Neumann, Studer (now PSI) and the very first series of B&W 801, Chandos in Uk uses ATC and others... These are just a few examples.
