Amp Recommendations. Revel F228BE

Well, we can probably agree that a combined (2-channel + HT) system is harder than either 2-channel or HT done separately.
Don't really understand it at all. Why bother?

ps i.e. you seem to assign some magical qualities to the 2ch mode and little reason to follow

Just another thought, while most of my collection is 2ch as I've been at it for 50 years or so but have looked more to multich content the last few years....so depends on your gear capability and investing in the speakers/amplification better suited to the goal.

Maybe this will help…

The main speakers, and their amplification chain, all of the work in 2-channel and a lot of work in HT.
If one uses a center channel then of course that is also doing a lion’s share.

The surrounds however are way more tolerant to having budgetary constraints on the amplification.

Sorry, nothing new there for consideration,

I have a pair of f228be that I bought a little over a month ago that I use in a combined 2 channel + HT system. In my case I use an integrated amp for 2 channel listening via vinyl, tuner, CD or streaming. The integrated amp uses home theater passthrough to run the fronts for HT use.

I chose this approach not so much for improved sound quality as just for personal preference. Something about the integrated amp is more satisfying to me (maybe just 'prettier' or 'more fun') for 2 channel listening than the AVR, and my use is much more 2 channel than HT. My AVR is the least expensive one I could find with front preamp out and 12v trigger which were necessary for HT passthrough use. Your Denon has both of these so it would work for HT passthrough if you were to consider going this route.

You mentioned liking to play at higher volumes sometimes. FWIW, I usually listen at around 70 dB (as measured with SPL meter on phone from listening position), and according to the meters on my integrated amp this is about 2 watts at peaks, and well below 1 watt most of the time.

Of course there are plenty of good reasons to just use an AVR for both music and HT. Easier sub integration and room correction / DSP probably being the biggest advantages. But, if you are like me and prefer a dedicated two channel setup for music, HT passthrough is a nice seamless way to achieve it.

Awesome.

There are times I listen to music/movies around 60-60 dB & times where I enjoy my music around 80-90dB. I feel like it is lacking the PUNCH at the lower level listening. I took many people's advice & contacted the pros over and GIK Acoustics and asked for advice. I provided pictures and filled out their form in regards to my desired end goal for the room. Over the last 2 days I've been going back and fourth between overall builds for the room & the next step.

I've decided I will be ordering some bass traps for the room to start and see how that changes things. I'm updating the first post to show pictures of the room (not completed in any means) but to get a better idea of what I'm working with so everyone can visualize it.

In the end I think the bass traps are going to make a big change, however I still think I'm going to desire a 2-3ch amp to drive them that extra mile.

Thank you for your input.

Or you can use the RME ADI-2 DAC FS "Loudness" feature. It allows you to set the Bass right where you want it so even at lower levels the punch is still amazing. I use it with my Revel F228Be speakers and never have an issue with a lack of punch at lower levels. :D

+1 for loudness.

I have the Anthem STR preamp. While it does not have loudness, it does have a simple sub and bass and treble adjustment that I sometimes use (usually just the sub adjustment at low volume).

How exactly would I hook this up? Speakers to AVR, AVR outs to this DAC?

Or

Speakers to AMP, AMP to DAC, DAC to AVR?

It’s really easy to set up a ht and stereo system, just use the Nobsound audio switch box which Amirm tested,it’s transparent.

can be got with rca and Xlr,think that’s also tested on here.

put simply

avr-pre out to switch box———
——-switch box to power amp-power amp to L&R speaker
dac pre out to switch box———

simple,transparent,no audiophile foo.

I much prefer stereo for music listening which is 90% of my use. In this case, I connect
MacBook Pro: ADI-2 DAC FS : Purifi amp: Revel F228Be

It sounds much better without the AVR to me. Try it and you will be amazed how clean the sound is.

That would depend on the AVR.
