Amp capable of powering a Modhouse Tungsten

I'm new here and I'm looking to buy a (300-700€) preamp/headphone amp combo that could power the Tungsten if I decide to buy one in the future.

2 interesting amps I've already seen are the Topping L70 and the SMSL H40. I've read some conflicting opinions on the Topping L70. I haven't found any information on the performance of the SMSL H40. Reliability is very important to me - that's why I don't want to buy the A70 Pro. Do you have any (other) suggestions?

Most likely one will be there. Will be at AXPONA too.
Sadly AXPONA is going to be to far as i'm across the big pond.
Though i'm hopeful that i'll get to test one out at CanJam London.
Did you have adapters when in NY for CanJam, or do i need to bring my own?

Hi there everyone, I'm thinking about getting a Modhouse Tungsten. It's rated at 135 impedance with a sensitivity of 76. I'm looking for a powerful amplifier to drive it and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I'm open to any suggestions as long as it measures well and is under $1000.
I have a pair of MS Tungstens incoming this week and plan on trying them with my GSX-Mini amp. These seem to be had in the second hand market around $700-800 and have decent power at the resistance of these headphones. I am eager to see how it goes.

2 W at 100 is 10*log10(100*2) = 23.01 dBV so should be enough for most things except the most dynamical content.

Isn't this Chord what the Tungsten requires?

I have a couple of Fostex T50RP II Modhouse Argon's and it wasn't until a used the Topping A90 amp that I really felt the power they promised.

The Topping L70 can play the Tungsten 10% louder than this Chord and you can buy fifteen of them for the price of one Alto.

Price ≠ Performance.

The GSX-Mini was running close to max volume but played nice and clean. I did seem to notice less dynamics than expected on electronic music with deep bass content. Out of curiosity I snagged a Flux FA-10 Pro which has substantially more power and drives the Tungstens easily.

Not the cleanest amp. ~400 mW at 300 Ohm so 10*log10(.4*300) = 20.79181 dBV at clipping point.

The FA-10 Pro has more power at 1.7 W at 300 Ohm so 10*log10(300*1.7) = 27.0757 dBV. Also, it has very high gain for its power at 14 dB, 20 dB and 25.3 dB. I could not find anything on the gain of the GS-X Mini.

Thanks! I hadn't seen that on the GSX-Mini. It looks like it would start to distort at higher output @ 150ish Ohm. However, I don't know what distortion at those levels sounds like when playing music. I did see the GoldenSound video on the Tungsten (or was that the Susvara?) where he specifically says the GSX-Mini isn't the best to drive them. I already had it so thought it was worth a go.

Depends on the type of music if you can hear the harmonics as such. It should add some brightness and/or harshness and/or reduce warmth and reduce dynamics.

I found the review. It was the Susvara.
