Amir's 2023 Pacific Audio Fest Report

@amirm , were they using somekind of RoomEQ with a lot of these systems you listened to or they just slapped the speakers in the room perhaps with a bit of thought to ideal location? Also, did most of the other participants laugh about the cable lifters and ultra expensive cables, was there a lot of sniggering about that, ha?

Thanks for the report, Amir.

Is it me, or does this look like room after room of tacky, over priced junk, the audio equivalent of Excalibur autos?

Hard pass here.

@amirm These are the only two posts that are currently not showing images:

The exhibits in the show honestly felt like really expensive/bulky ways of trying to get worse measuring sound. So many big boxes and speakers that don't fit in aesthetically with any normal home.

Also this just looks ultra tacky.

Any potential pseudoscience aside, whatever floats your boat I guess. In computing, when people try to make fast custom desktop PCs, the end results tend to be decent on the eye to look at. I only ever went to a Headfi meet long ago, and there, at least the headphones and amps/dacs tend to be smaller/less intrusive at least.

Jacqueline du Pre's Elgar with John Barbirolli would be her iconic recording. The other 2 being her Dvorak and Schumann recordings.
The Hadyn, not that much.

FYI all pictures take roughly a minute to be fully loaded/displayed in my browser, no pictures at all in posts #17 & #18.
Thanks for the report and good night !
Also missing photos in #17 and #18. Other posts have pictures. I’m reading on iPad in case that matters.

Running on empty folks. Got less than 6 hours of sleep last night. Need to catch up on some tonight. I have about 30% of the exhibits left to post. Good night...
Fabulous, Amir - and new music to listen to also. Thanks for all that work

Other electronics connected with massive/long speaker wires:

Check out these "Masterbuilt wires." They are one of the most expensive in industry. A short length may be $20K!

The wires probably cost the same as two or three sports cars! :)

I expect fire department hoses. o_O

You just gotta love those Masterbuilt cables. I couldn’t resist, and had a peek at their webpage. Here‘s the first couple sentences of pages of crap:

’After eight years of research, MasterBuilt Audio is proud to announce the availability of Ultra Line cables. Ultra is based on exotic formulation and assembly techniques developed for information transmission systems by aerospace engineers. Numerous high profile organizations, both government and private, utilize this design for mission critical applications. Key to the audio version of the Ultra design is maintaining extremely subtle details by managing the flow of electrons through the conductors and the avoidance of interaction in both the conductors and insulating materials.’ Blah, blah, blah…

Damn Amir! You soooo made my day.
Beginning to not feel so bad about my profligate spending on a pair of recently discontinued and 1/2 price Kef R11’s. Thanks! I needed that…
