Am I crazy? WiiM Ultra Amp + Dynaudio

The Ultra streamer paired with any of the Yamaha A-S is a nice combo though. But what remains is a lot of space occupied, heat, power consumption..

If WiiM would make an AVR/AVP the last of my fullsize hifi boxes would be instantly gone.

The fact that I can get 3 WiiM Amp Ultra for the price of 1 A-S1200 here is crazy.

The old hifi world is probably in for some major disruption years. ;)
The fact that a wiim ultra streamer is the ultimate swiss knife for any price let's say under 1000 euros, is sooo impressive, a wiim amp ultra can do the same

The a-s1200 is not 3 times as good, some good cables feet what ever you need and a quality pair of speakers for 400-500 euros, dali sonik, kupid, elac debut, wharfedale diamond 12i,used kef ls 50 og what ever you can find, you have a whole system for less than 2/3 new of the price of a yamaha a-s1200 amp add a 400 euro subwoofer you have a very competent system with bass, room correction and good sound, still for less than the price of a new yamaha a-s1200 + some extra to buy music, concerts or a used cdplayer + cd's

Agreed, while the A-S1200 is beautiful to look at, all high end components, aluminum knobs, etc, etc... I can't tell any difference in sound, and the WiiM pulls way ahead once you implement it's RoomFit correction software. Then in my case even further when I added my RSL sub + WiiM's bass correction. Wow!

That was my prior setup, WiiM streamer into the Yggydrasil DAC into the Yamaha A-S1200.

Software is where all the difference is. WiiM is really good in that department. I don't think there is anyone else who hands out such a stack of features at rather low prices.

No, with the power amp built in, lots less flexible.

Would be nice if they would make an amp with double the power
Hence my reco, go with separate units

Even more so if you go with multichannel , switch between Film Mode and Music using amp+speakers sets in common

Yep, the amp is not a pre-amp. Also no coax, phono, optical out and trigger. But it still features optical in, HDMI, usb, analogue in. The DAC in the amp is upgraded to 9039 vs. 9038 in the streamer.

Basically the Ultra streamer paired with a Vibelink give the same hardware + all the input options + pre-amp function preserved + 3 inputs switchable at the amp. For roughly the same money.

But for those wanting just one box the amp is still a nobrainer package.

Yes absolutely, if you'll for sure never ever change your system, or repurpose the streamer to a a more complex one, or pass it on to someone else.

Might even affect resale value?

My counterpoint: Wiim Ultra now allows SIMULTANEOUS output from both S/PDIF, and devices like Eitr 2 and Topping D10B...

Sorry to harp on about it but...

There's really no reason that as long as the amp delivers sufficient power for your use, the Wiim wouldn't be just as good as your Yamaha (and actually better as it has a better feature set, particularly for including a sub). Spending a lot of money on an amp you don't need is just a waste.

ps I'd also say no, you're just experiencing sanity over usual amp bullshit

Yes, digital out (not USB) and analogue in parallel. Another clever feature by the WiiM devs.

When it comes to making things convenient there isn't much the Ultra can't do. The only thing I currently miss is storing more things into the presets. Like AVR enable storing everything there, down to the basic speaker setup if wanted.
