All About UFO's

It appears that Professor Loeb's imagination was fired by the observation of Oumuamua. Becoming driven and obsessive about an idea can lead to new discoveries and science, but...
He found tiny balls of metal and concluded they came from a space ship. Or, they could have come from literally any other bit of molten metal. But sure, let's say it's a space ship, to the press, before you're done studying them, because that's what scientists do.

Yeah, that's the problem. Extraordinary claims and all that...

Having his imagination fired by Oumuamua and to then go looking for potential interstellar material on Earth is, I think, good science. But he has yet to prove that the material he's recovered is not of terrestrial origin, let alone it being interstellar material. And to then make the extraordinary claim that some tiny balls of iron are the remnants of a space ship. The analysis of the material he presents had better be extraordinary evidence.

Agree. The spherules themselves are of legitimate scientific interest. But this is like finding an unusual crystal next to a decayed metal tube in Mexico, and then claiming it's evidence that ancient Mayans had lasers. Either he's going full crackpot on purpose, or he's lost it, or he's been wildly carried away by his enthusiasm for extrasolar stuff... or... HE KNOWS SOMETHING "THEY" DON'T WANT US TO KNOW! ;)

"Rather shaky" => utter crackpot
we scientists are always very circumspect.

:cool:;):rolleyes::facepalm:

Career in science not doing so hot? Why not try... PSEUDOSCIENCE! You get to pretend to be a scientist, but don't have to do real science. The catch: your audience is no longer other scientists, but morons on the internet. The upside: Make $$$ selling iffy supplements on your podcasts and poorly written books accusing "them" of hiding "the truth".

Loeb's seemingly made his choice...
Pro tip.
Wear a white lab coat.

I worked at a place years ago where the technicians wore white lab coats, engineers blue and storesmen brown.

I was a storesman but I didn't stay long enough to get issued my brown coat.

I don't think that happens anymore. The whole job/coat thing, that is. Except on aircraft carriers.

When I was designing an EMAT machine for Tuboscope for inspecting downhole tubular goods I wore a black lab coat. Those pipes are filthy!

I am from establishments where the technicians (etc.) wore blue on the manufacturing floor.
Most engineers wore white coats when in the labs.
Except for the software wEEnies who were not allowed to go anywhere but their workstations, if they insisted on wearing their flip-flops and Hawaiian-print shirts.:confused:

OOT: I was once spared a speeding ticket while wearing a white lab-coat... it had helped that my company badge had tickled his interest.:facepalm:

C'mon you UK guys. Quit suppressing the truth!!!

I had to do a double PageUp to remind me what this thread subject was about...
I was wondering if they would make good eating: Would they taste like a filet-mignon or a salmon steak on the BBQ?
I hope they are not just another 'white meat'.
