What you raised as questions may indeed be what the authors of the paper are thinking in terms of, though I have not checked into it. Since the Covid-19 lockdown began, I have watched a whole bunch of YT videos. Among them are multiple interviews with Hoffman, Kastrup, Chalmers, Sarvapriyananda, Tegmark, McGilchrist and some lesser known philosophers/mathematicians/physicists/biologists/psychologists. I forget where on the spectrum of platonism, panpsychism, panentheism, neutral monism, etc. Donald Hoffman operates.

To your questions, the idealists who take consciousness to be primal, are not usually specific in how it all operates. I remain hopeful that all will eventually be satisfactorily explicated in terms of quantum entanglement, though almost certainly not within the remaining years (?) of my life.


Agreed. This is probably why the study failed the "with controls" part of Sabine's presumed "double-blind with controlled dosage" requirement. On the other hand, the theory might explain why the aliens and their spacecraft are so non-photogenic even in this day of high-res cameras.

I think panpsychism is treated too seriously by too many people. "How do you know" and "how does it work" are treated as foolish questions by these people.

I watched the video shown in the thumbnail. The DoW report describes the phenomenon “travel[ing] with the wind” and noted that it did not “maneuver or change direction.” It also describes the phenomenon as appearing similar to a “large, somewhat deformed balloon.”

To me, the upper left portion of the object looks like a pig's face. I speculate it was a large pig balloon, probably custom made, for a BBQ restaurant on the east coast (NC and SC are known for BBQ pork). The balloon got loose, deflated a bit, and partially tangled up with itself.

Humans tend to see patterns of familiar things in unfamilar shapes. To me the upper left portion looks like a pig's face, but to others it may look like something else.

EDIT: Another possibility is that the object was a Razorbacks mascot balloon. Arkansas is a little far from the east coast, but sometimes balloons float a long way.

Hot take: Anyone posting AI "enhancements" based on blurry photos is not only not to be taken seriously, but is blatantly making things up and should be considered a purveyor of boring fiction at best.

I didn't find it compelling. If it floats along and does not exhibit any truly anomalous behaviors, it goes in the balloon file for me. There were some recent vids where the object does behave in ways that make it clearly no balloon or bird, etc, but as mentioned my post, the released documents are more interesting for me and he does a good job of covering some of them.

I think the most interesting document I have come across is the one I described earlier in this thread, which was an FBI report released by the ODNI describing an encounter by a joint operation task force over a test range in the western U.S. So far they only have released still images of the encounter, though.

Given the operation was specifically looking for UAPs, I think it is highly likely there is video footage. The question I have is why haven't they released that footage? If the slow-release to avoid ontological shock hypothesis is correct, that may be an explanation. It's hard to tell.

Until then I more or less consider them to have given up on science in favor of getting followers on social media and appearing on crackpot podcasts.

I keep getting Institute of Art and Ideas stuff in my FB feed, and they're really laundering a lot of crackpot nonsense over there, panpsychism among it.

heck, I'm not sure there's a robust, rigorous way to measure the consciousness of a human being. Maybe fMRI... maybe...?

You can tell whether a person is conscious from that or EEG because we know the patterns that correspond to people who are otherwise known to be (un)conscious. But characterizing the consciousness, yeah, very limited AFAIK.

One related thing I was thinking about the other day... a good "turing test" for "Super AI" would be that it could prove that it's conscious. Given that, you know, we mere humans don't know how to do that yet, and sometimes resort to just saying "well, everything must be conscious!". You'd have to be pretty smart to be able to prove you're conscious.

We can't do that for long list of things that are accepted, or mostly accepted, in the science world, but, there appears to be different flavors of what falls under the panpsychism umbrella. To me it sounds more like philosophy, but the two do cross paths more than people like to admit.

Of course the hyperventilating green-shirt lost all credibility (not that you can lose something you don't have, but it's a figure of speech) when he referred to 'the elephant in the room'. Who mistakes a flying pig for an elephant?
