All About UFO's

In this five-and-a-half minute long YT video, Sabine Hossenfelder discusses a paper by Donald Hoffman (mathematician, philosopher of science, "consciousness is the fundamental basis of the universe") and co-workers which theorizes that aliens / ETs "encountered" by humans during psychedelic-induced hallucinations may be "real" conscious beings:

Excellent vid from one of my favorite YT channel via Dr. Hossenfelder. I read Donald Hoffman's book, have listened to various of his interviews. Can't really fault her for that conclusion. I still think Dr. Hoffman is correct in his general positions, but that paper was obviously a long reach.

Take a moment and seriously analyze what is happening with this subject in and around the U.S. government. There are one of two possibilities:

1) There are a lot of very gullible and bat sh!t crazy people at the highest levels of the U.S. government;

OR

2) For 80 years the U.S. government really has been hiding one of the most significant discoveries from its citizens.

The longer I follow this subject, as well as other issues, the more inclined I am to believe it is the former (1). But, that is even more scarry than the latter (2), and gives me great concern about the future of the U.S.
You have already asked too much of people.

Suppose UFOs came to Albania, or Chad, or Andorra, or the UAE, or Nepal, or... (fill in your favorite smaller country). Would their governments do (have done) likewise? If so, why?

EDIT: PS My money's likewise on 1), FWIW -- there probably is a massive conspiracy, but it's probably to use nonsense to direct the gullible and the bat-feces masses away from some truly important stuff that "they" (the "U.S. government"... or whoever) would prefer not to disclose or, at least, talk a lot about.

The Xpstein Files ?

The Xpstein Files ?
I'm not sure the timelines are well enough aligned.

The Dec. 2017 New York Times article, and the related interview of Luis Elizondo, were a pivotal moment in the current UAP discussion. Investigations into Xpsten begain in 2005, which culminated in secret deals for him to avoid prosecution. The case wasn't revived until Dec. 2018, nearly a year after the New York Times article. That doesn't mean that some people did not see the UAP issue as an opportunity for distraction, but I think, for them, that was more of a fortunate circumstance than a plan initiated for that purpose.

One hypothesis that seems to be gaining traction is that the New York Times article and slow release of information by the government all are part of a planned disclosure process, with the slow release intended to avoid ontological shock in the public at large. I'm not inclined to buy that hypothesis, but I try to keep an open mind.

On the subject of ontological shock by the public, I don't buy that either. In the late 1800s through the early 1900s notable astronomers theorized that an advanced Martian civilization was building massive irrigation projects on Mars. The public didn't blink an eye.

Among my friends and family, they really couldn't care any less. They have zero interest in the subject, and if they were told NHI is here, they probably would act mildly surprised, then go about their day as normal.

EDIT: For some of my friends, they only would show interest if a UAP landed on a putting green and left ruts messing up their putting line.

Wouldn't these not be "aliens" in the "flew here from another solar system" sense, but trans-dimensional beings of some kind?

I guess if you consider that normal consciousness is highly filtered against all possible data the brain could render into the mind, and there are... somehow... trans-dimensional beings all around us all the time but imperceptible to normal senses, this makes sense? ("sense")

I would say "stranger things have happened"... but no, quite possibly they haven't.

Probably hard to study this phenomenon objectively, my understanding is DMT is pretty strong stuff and you'd find it hard to take notes.

I don’t suppose anyone has stopped to consider that all this ernest discussion, in the absence of facts, is just self diddling.

The discussion of AI has led me realize that I don’t reason about religion, politics, or controversial topics.

I just assign probabilities to hypotheses and move on. It’s a win for me, because I ca never be wrong. Every proposition has a non-zero probability.

I can, however, make bets, and I bet that misperception and deliberate manipulation of the public are the most likely components of UAP phenomena.

I probably would have made the same bet regarding rocks falling from the sky. I can make losing bets.

Fair points. I personally just engage for 1) extra opportunities to talk trash about charlatans and 2) speculate about cool science fiction ideas.

Generally I'm in the same camp you are, I guess the speculation is to decide whether any given proposition deserves a hard 0% probability or if I can talk myself into a higher number.

DMT aliens is tough. Hallucinations are actually real in a sense? Scary thought... And seems pretty unlikely.

I have become so post modern in my outlook that I don’t even know how to describe the difference between reality and hallucination.

But I have an extremely low expectation of seeing alien visitors.

Well, hence the term "consensus reality"... A hallucination may seem real but only exists for an individual. For them maybe it is real. The rest of us agree it's a phenomenon limited to the inside of their head. But what if...

Philip K Dick got a lot of mileage out of this conceptual space in some of his books.

I have a pretty low expectation of seeing aliens, too. Unless I find myself in a position to dispose of a little DMT, I guess.

What you raised as questions may indeed be what the authors of the paper are thinking in terms of, though I have not checked into it. Since the Covid-19 lockdown began, I have watched a whole bunch of YT videos. Among them are multiple interviews with Hoffman, Kastrup, Chalmers, Sarvapriyananda, Tegmark, McGilchrist and some lesser known philosophers/mathematicians/physicists/biologists/psychologists. I forget where on the spectrum of platonism, panpsychism, panentheism, neutral monism, etc. Donald Hoffman operates.

To your questions, the idealists who take consciousness to be primal, are not usually specific in how it all operates. I remain hopeful that all will eventually be satisfactorily explicated in terms of quantum entanglement, though almost certainly not within the remaining years (?) of my life.

Probably hard to study this phenomenon objectively, my understanding is DMT is pretty strong stuff and you'd find it hard to take notes.
Agreed. This is probably why the study failed the "with controls" part of Sabine's presumed "double-blind with controlled dosage" requirement. On the other hand, the theory might explain why the aliens and their spacecraft are so non-photogenic even in this day of high-res cameras.

I dip in every now and then. The credulity of some here never ceases to amaze. Video after video of evidence free assertions and claims offered up as though the breathed word of God.

Time to leave for another month or two.

and there is UFO footage at 01:24:00
I'd love to see what someone who works in VFX makes of that. As someone who saw a fair bit of '90s camcorder footage, and more recently digitised some of it, that looks wrong. To me it seems more like a modern 'video tape effect' filter that produces artefacts you don't find on real camcorder tapes, similar to how marketing photographers always want 'scientists' and 'engineers' to do things they'd never really do. On the other hand perhaps it can end up like that through too many recording generations, tape wear over repeated replays, or tape formats I never used, a bit like how someone used to PAL thinks WTF when they see how NTSC messes with colours.

Foreign agents collaborating with ETs may have lead to Sen. Graham’s demise.

Not sure why ETs would be after Graham, but it is now part of the deep cover-up by US intelligence services. Don’t expect the true files on Graham’s death to be released anytime soon. Reputable high-ranking government sources have leaked that they are being transferred to the top secret holding facility outside of Roswell, NM. Roswell was the obvious choice as government officials with top security clearances, like DNI and POTUS, have been decoyed from accessing the true files stored there for decades. Is it a coincidence that the CIA was created the same year as the Roswell crash (1947)? Sorry the video is not longer to beat you down into submission.

I had assumed this was a piss take but on reflection perhaps it’s serious

Aliens are super sneaky with hiding evidence, they are good at using the ocean to hide outwitting many dummies allegedly
What if the truth about UAPs is far stranger and far more unsettling than we've been told?

In this episode of Mayim Bialik's Breakdown, Rear Admiral Tim Gallaudet, PhD, US Navy (Ret.) - former oceanographer, retired Rear Admiral, and author of Holding Fast in Heavy Seas - reveals why he believes some of the biggest secrets surrounding UAPs (UFOs) may be hidden beneath Earth's oceans.

After serving 32 years in the U.S. Navy, Gallaudet personally witnessed now-declassified UAP evidence and became one of the first people to view the now-famous "Go Fast" Navy video while it was still classified. He explains why he immediately knew the technology wasn't American or from any known adversary, and why the government kept the footage hidden for years.

We dive deep into reports of mysterious craft operating both above and below the ocean, the seemingly impossible physics required for these objects to transition seamlessly between air and water, and why he believes our oceans may hold critical clues to understanding the true origins of nonhuman intelligence.

We also discuss why eyewitness testimony remains one of the most important forms of evidence, how he personally gathers reports from fellow servicemen and submits them to official government agencies, and why official confirmation always seems to be delayed with calls for "more data."

Adm. Gallaudet also helps us tackle some of the most controversial questions surrounding disclosure:
- Could quantum mechanics help explain UAPs?
- Do UAPs actually change form depending on the observer?
- Why do encounters with nonhuman intelligence profoundly transform the people who witness them?
- Is the unsettling possibility that humanity is not in control the real reason disclosure has moved so slowly?

We explore the intersection of UAPs with the paranormal, including government-funded remote viewing and ESP research, what those programs may imply about consciousness and psi phenomena, why childhood paranormal experiences may make some people more receptive to later mystical encounters, and whether proving UAPs could fundamentally reshape our understanding of reality itself.

Adm. Gallaudet also breaks down:
- Which presidential administrations may or may not have had access to information about nonhuman intelligence (Did President Nixon showed comedian Jackie Gleason an alleged alien body?)
- Whether mysterious cattle mutilations could represent nonhuman intelligence monitoring humanity's food supply
- Why he believes intelligent life almost certainly exists elsewhere in the universe
- Why the public deserves transparency about discoveries that could fundamentally change our understanding of reality, and why no government should gatekeep truths of that magnitude

If you've ever wondered whether the biggest mystery isn't in space but beneath our oceans, this is a conversation you won't want to miss!
