Not sure how I missed that there was a movie made of Annihilation...
I read VanderMeer's "Southern Reach" series and really enjoyed them. I imagine it would be very hard for a move to do justice to the books

I saw the movie first then read the books... The movie is a very limited and cut down take on the books. Basically it's just one expedition and it fully skips a lot of stuff even just from the first book. Still works fine as a movie but forget you've read the books if you want to enjoy it.

That's pretty much inevitable for anything longer than a short story - there just isn't enough screen time to fit everything in.

The time-honored promotional strategy. Which can safely concede the earlier work was ‘speculative’ but insist the current work is ‘real’ because the latter is the one we are selling tickets for.

I am confused. Is he now saying that the Ark of the Covenant really doesn’t rapidly decompose people who fail to avert their eyes? If his previous movies were speculative, then I don’t know what to believe anymore. I have always looked to Spielberg for guidance on objective reality as well as practical lifestyle tips. I’ve gotten very proficient at crawling along the undercarriage of moving vehicles during incidents of road rage.

I wish he would have been appointed to the U.S. government's new UAP Science Advisory Council, but it doesn't sound like something he would want to participate in based on the interview.

I would think the video is right up your alley. Mick West debunks a lot of UAP videos. Smart guy. On top of that, he's British.
