Let me tell you all a little story (yes, an
anecdote!
). There is a red-roofed house on a ridge south of us. If google maps is to be believed, it's about 1.24 miles (1.99 km) from our house "as the crow flies". Due to its location and its
bright red roof, it's clearly visible from the back of our house, even though it is liberally surrounded by a mix of deciduous and evergreen trees.

The "red roofed house" has an outdoor light. It is fairly dark here at night, so the light is quite conspicuous.
On dark, windy nights, a remarkable effect manifests itself. The light not only seems to randomly appear and disappear, it also seems to
move -- quite rapidly. It appears not just to move left and right & up and down, but it can also appear to move
closer and farther away. All of these phenomena can occur very quickly, with the net effect of an appearing, and disappearing bright light that moves
very very quickly left, right, up, down, nearer and farther.
We've lived here for over 12 years. I've observed this numerous times -- most recently last night. I watched it for a couple of minutes last night from the window in our bedroom closet

while I was getting ready for bed. It is
eerie. It is not
inexplicable though. It's the light, tree branches, the wind,
and human perception.
Just like those amazing effects on
soundstage when one switches from a sigma-delta DAC to an R2R DAC, or from Brand EXPENSIVE to Brand REALLY EXPENSIVE interconnects.
Human perception.
Man is the measure of all things.
Even the stuff the instruments they make tell them.
N.B. I spent a career trying to understand what the measurements we took were telling us.
