Alcons or Genelec or L- Acoustics or Krix for a dedicated HT

I tried all these systems, most of them in my house so managed to really get to know them. The genelec 8341a was in studio but owned the 8361a for 1 year approx. I tried the krix mx20 and 40 and the new flagship ones at the expo demo room. Alcons I had at my house for about a week.

My favourites by far were l-acoustics.
X8i and Soka. Syva is also great but overkill for my needs. They are some of the best speakers I have ever heard. They have amazing dynamic range and are flat past 17khz. Mainly they have excellent tonality, very enjoyable.

I heard an Alcons system a couple of years ago when they were distributed in the UK by Pulse Cinemas. Three row demo space approx 10x10m. I can’t remember what model speaker they had but the LCR were pretty big. The sound was very refined and detailed. No fatigue. Quite impressive.
L’Acoustics are certainly making some waves in the UK home cinema space too although they seem to be pushing mid-tops plus bass managed bass channels and separate LFE subs, so possibly more complex than other options.

I don't think l-acoustics is pushing anything they will model your room for free likely if you ask.

For most homes the x8i for LCR and x6i for surround is more then enough and then some. L-acoustics does have moduler speakers with seperat subs but so does alcons.

Alcons was good dynamically but I prefered the krix over that. The l-acoustics and krix retain a lot of detail above 7khz where the alcons was a little sterile.
Put it this way I can have my wife in tears during a sad movie with the l-acoustics or tapping her feet during something musical but not with the alcons.

Thank you for the response bro. So L-Acoustics over Alcons is understandable but are you sure that you prefer Krix over Alcons? One thing I don’t like in Lacoustics is that they don’t have infrasonic subs . Though I don’t have experienced Alcons yet the reviews and user’s experience really impressed me .

Surprised at this price point nobody has mentioned the W371's for the Genelec option, at least for front L/R.

You don't have to use l-acoustics subs. Go with whatever is best.
Ask Gsg to make you a duel opposed 24" sub which is a better outcome then a 32" and its very cheap in comparison to the big brands.

Wisdom, Lyngdorf, Ascendo, Perlisten, JBL?
I have owned wisdom audio for 1.5 years and also owned jbl synthesis (old gen) and heard the new gen at demos.

Wisdom is excellent but expensive. And the sound is not better but just a bit different. This will depend on personal preference.

Ho big is your HT, LxWXH? How loud, dB, do you want to play?

My HT is 25x16 x11.5 feet .I want to have reference level db at MLP and my main preference is dynamic and pristine sound without causing fatigue.

Put it this way I can have my wife in tears during a sad movie with the l-acoustics or tapping her feet during something musical but not with the alcons.
How does she respond when listening from the kitchen?

Though I don’t listen to high db always my HT should be able to create reference level db .
What do you regard as reference level in dB? I can tell you from personal experience that listening to HT or music at 75 DB average levels is plenty loud for myself and most people who visit. Allowing for 20+ dB peaks, this is close enough to THX reference level. The 8351s should suffice, you don’t need 8361s, especially since you’re using subwoofers. It is better to have two or more smaller subwoofers than one big or very big one. Multiple 7370s or 7360s? The downside is that generally roofers tend to be very expensive.

Select your speakers with serviceability in mind. If something breaks, can they be repaired in India or do you need to send them back to their home country for servicing? IIRC, Genelec had agents in India. Do the other manufacturers you listed have agencies in India who can service your speakers or electronics if something goes wrong?

My own Preference would be for your option one, Genelec. Have you considered the Trinnov Altitude or Nova processors.

I don’t know Indian prices, but it wouldn’t surprise me if such a system might cost between Rs 50 to 80 lacs. A lot of money, so tread carefully..

Personally I'd be looking at some JBL M2s or for a non-powered option, some 4367s

For movie use in a hobbyist's room, speakers are a completely different matter than the advantages and disadvantages of a listening environment created for music.I guess that all of the above options work just fine, but the biggest and most important question is what sound pressure levels are sufficient for each person? Because human nature, age and needs vary so drastically.

Most even hifi/high end enthusiasts have small speakers at home when watching you tube videos, often with bass of 8 inches or even less, and I personally think that they really don't go to the moon. The same applies to the needs of a movie theater, how loud the dB and how low it should go. Everyone has to solve these questions for themselves according to their needs. Some of us are so hypersensitive to volume spikes, and others can withstand sound pressure levels that can even become distressing for a long time, that I see that in film use it is basically impossible to tell another person which speaker brand would suit you best.

You’re welcome.

I’m curious now, how much do 8351/8341/woofers cost in India?

Send me a direct message if you have any more questions.
