AKG K371 Review (closed back headphone)

Hmmz. I checked at Amazon.ca and there is complaint after complaint regarding the hinges not holding in place or wearing out after a month.

I bought a pair in Dec 2024, and by Jan 2025 the seams of the earpad covers were already coming apart, in multiple places (first tear captured in the attachment). It was very poorly glued together. Was shocked at the manufacturing quality from a company like AKG.

But, thankfully, I was able to get good replacement earpads from this company called Brainwavz. They have been great so far and way way better than the original ones that came from AKG.

Another small issue - after about 2 hours, I feel some pain where the earpads meet my head. As Amir noted, they aren't super comfortable, especially if you wear glasses. I've never had any pain with my other pair - AKG K92.

I have to say I really like the headphones otherwise. They sound great and I've not had any issues with the folding and headband adjustment mechanism.

Yeah, on the K361s also, even with gentle use, the earpads wore out after about 3 years. The aftermarket ones work well, fortunately.

I would probably try to get sheepskin pads as replacement (if available).
My pads are OK yet, since Sep. 2021, so either they were better then, or mine are getting less sunlight?
They are used rather often (bedroom setup), but I don't travel with them, so no folding etc.

I prefer softer and breathable materials for ear pads - so I went with the velour pads

I wasn't travelling with my pair either. No sunlight or sweat. Just careful bedroom and study use.

My first contact point is the seller within the warranty period.

If 2021 pads "outlive" 2024 pads, might mean their quality is not what it used to be.
Not impossible, with everybody outsourcing all they can these days.

Didn't have that option.. more like that route would be a lot of pain and waiting forever.

Many countries and regions don't have robust and prompt customer service from the OEMs. Sometimes it's best to find a solution yourself using the communities/forums online.

I don't get it, I daily use the k371 (gently) and no problems.
Just had to change the earpads once.

I bought a second pair of K371 as a spare, as they are good headphones, if my first pair get broken or anything else.

Made one last mod, replacing stock pads with sheepskin of the cheap Chinese variety.

They were an AliExpress acquisition, only 5 dolla after coupon, coins and sale. They retail for 20, don't know how they absorb all these discounts, works for me. Chose them over Dekoni since those seem to change the sound too much, and were a 10th of the price. So far sounds great, just like before, but comfort is better. Feels cooler as well.

So I got the aftermarket cable, headband pad, now new earpads and they're feeling and sounding awesome. I consider my previous headphone problems now solved, and I prefer no EQ, and listen pretty loud so appreciate the efficiency.

Very nice. Links to upgrades? I'm most interested in the headband pad and ear pads. I've been debating going with Dekoni pads, but that's the story I keep hearing myself.. I enjoy the sound too much without EQ to change it up. I am fortunate to only see wear on the pads after years and years of regular use, but they definitely get warm and can be uncomfortable during prolonged listening. The leather-like material sitting on my hear gets pretty oily as well.

I think I got these earpads from AliExpress. You might have to wait for the sale and coupon and coin usage. But I believe they're real sheepskin and a nice upgrade. Dekoni seems overpriced to me now after shopping on AE.
