AKG K371 Review (closed back headphone)

For those who don't know the crude looking DT150 (fitted with Velour DT100 pads)

DT150 with DT100 pads:

A real workhorse that can take an enormous beating.
I found the treble quality is not very refined.
Yes... still sold new for €129.- + €16.- for the pads for those wondering.

How is the comfort?

That's an absurd statement.

Headphones that are supposedly designed to be used in studio should be a tight fit but that does not exclude comfort. In fact in studio work comfort is quite imperative as one may wear the headphones for a long time on a daily basis..

Studio work doesn't typically involve wearing headphones for hours. I've visited a few.

That said, it is certainly not a disadvantage when they are comfortable.. it is just not on top of the priority list. I think we can all agree on this?

Depends what you're doing. And yeah, I've spent a lot of time in a studio aswell, my stepfather owned one and he used headphones several hours every day, so I still do consider comfort is a preferable thing.

It can't be more important than isolation, because studio mics will pick up bleed which is unwanted.

Yeah, I agree, though depending where and what for the phones are used in the studio. I guess we're talking about different stuff done in a studio. Bleed's an issue if the headphones are used by the artist in the recording room or if one's monitoring in the same room where the recording's done (very unusual, usually there's a separate room for that of course and I'm sure everyone knows this).

I understood we were talking about headphones used in monitoring/mastering by the producer/engineer/MD. My bad if I misunderstood.

I don't think the DT150 with the DT100 velour pads are uncomfortable. Not at all. Many other headphones give me "too warm ears" and for me the HD600 are too tight. These do not.

Upgrade with natural glove leather. Fixed the problem with crack of headband -- you need to glue with elastic glue (ex. B-7000) in the green area.

Just checking in on ear pads updates. Recently my pads disintegrated and pads are pretty much 50% of these headphones.

It seems AKG simply does not care, like at all.
Are there still no decent earpad replacement variants?

There still are some available in Germany. I'm still on the original ones, so I can't say whether they are good.

no replacement earpads; from akg u can only get in a few selected countries in europe;
brainwavz will change the sound, dekoni is very expensive with shipping and they don't send to many countries

I am not sure these graphs are very reliable. Unless someone actually measure them i don't think it has the same FR

This is why i think their measurement is off; how can another earpad with the same material increase bass by ~15db? In a headphone that already has a +6dB bass boost (harman).

Oh I can actually answer this one!

Usually with earpads, even though its the same material the desnity of material, foam and various other combining factors can cause these huge variations. Dekoni uses different materials to the stock pads so likely they used thicker leather + a different foam. Thicker leathers isolate the bass more which causes that increase.
