AKG 371 replacement

I'll look into them. I assumed they would fall out of my budget.

The DT 270 PRO looks like the most balanced one. I'll have to look up the size of the earcups and compare them to the K371.

Earpad sizes are all mentioned in my reviews (the ones I linked to).

I'm looking for a replacement for an AKG K371. Main reason is that faux leather is flaking off the pads and headband. I've already replaced the pads but the same thing happens within no time at all.
These are not used for critical listening. They will be used for listening to YouTube video's (instructional videos) and podcasts. So the midrange should sound nice.
In the infrequent scenario that I would use them for music listening they certainly should not sound offensive. No EQ will be used.
They need to be closed back.
No IEMs.
They will be plugged directly into a laptop.
I want to spend ~€150 max.
Currently thinking about Beyerdynamic DT770 pro (250Ohm?).
- no pleather earpads
- decent sound
- high impedance = easy to drive from a laptop?
- replacement parts available

Any good alternatives?

buy velour earpads for them. they are cheap. I did.

It's all compromises at this price point really. That's why I replaced my k371s with an hd 480 pro that despite being £300 in the UK ticks all of the OPs boxes and then some without the need for EQ or a dedicated amp.

I understand, I have to say I'm done with the K371 since a few days.
For portable use I bought a little JBL Tune 670NC and... I prefer them to the AKG, with EQ set to "studio" in the JBL app (otherwise the bass level is too high).
At 60€ these JBL sound "fuller" than the AKG which has always this 4 kHz dip problem with a kind of "hollow" signature.

I am at a point where I will try again a good old ATH-M50X because that cannot be with no reason we see them in all studios.

Your 480 Pro looks promising...

I scraped all the faux leather off the headband with an EXACTO knife and replaced the pads with real sheepskin ones from AliExpress Amazon. No more flaking...

and ordered a HD480 pro too.

Best FR I saw for a closed back.

Funny because the right channel of my K371 went off 2 or 3 days ago. Time to move to better headphones

I am going to say something that may sound weird.

Try the Fiio EH13 if you are ok with Bluetooth and want portability. They are cheap and when you eq them they sounds as good or better than any closed backs I have tried under $400 for sound. They sound way better than the FT1 after eq. Worth a try?

I own them and strongly disagree. They are decent and a good value but that's about it. I guess we all have different tastes.

Have you tried SuperX Reviews eq to start with? That really helped me. We may just have different tastes. I like mostly neutral, maybe slightly warm non-fatiguing sound.

It's a bit off topic but I received the Sennheiser HD480 Pro : too bass light to my taste.
Comfort and build quality great but still going with the K371.

That was before listening to them with a proper amplifier (120 ohms impedance).

Bass level is good enough, more tight than the K371 and the obvious difference is the sensation of a "full" sound as the Senn don't have the 4 kHz dip the K371 has.

Gonna keep them and add a proper dongle to my phone.
