Volume change shows up nice and large enugh:

These pics won't do justice but it does look very nice in real.

I am providing some quick measurements that might help you to choose or not to, until we get formal review on ASR.
I am using cheap Topping E1x2 OTG for these measurements, which normally gives me measurements up to 105-106 dB on Windows machine with REW, Multitone Analyzer, RMAA etc. using WASAPI exclusive mode drivers. ASIO gives me 2-3dB higher results reaching up to 108-109 but software crashes with ASIO4ALL sometimes when I use it and so I am just using WASAPI for now.
* I tried installing ASIO drivers from Aiyima's website but it didn't install on my Win11 Surface Pro.
These aren't anything fancy but might surely helpful in absence of more precise AP measurements.
I have taken same measurements for both chips - AKM & ESS to make it easy to compare if you wish.
Parameters are printed on the measurement pictures if you care.
Only USB input and XLR Out is measured, I did not have USB to Coax converter or RCA to XLR/TRS cable in hand for this.
I used D20 in bypass mode, essentially full volume.

DMM readings are:
RCA Out: 0dBFS: 4.07 Vrms
XLR Out: 0dBFS: 2.01 Vrms
You have full 2v & 4v out on RCA and XLR respectively.

It cleared 105dB which is is max I get on my tools. So please see it as minimum D20 can provide, precise measurement with better measuring equipment should be higher.
Both DAC chips have nearly identical results.

======================================
Subjectively, it sounds as good as any other good measured DAC.
Both AKM & ESS sound equally good to me, no difference that I can tell.......
To me, it's a wonderful DAC - Good Looking as well as Good Sounding.

Hope these basic measurements can help a bit.
Enjoy.

I m so love D20. AKM for vocal, ESS for YouTube and movie. One remote control both D20 T20 is a plus. Duo Opt in provide more versatile.

software crashes with ASIO4ALL sometimes
FlexASIO with WDM-KS has been more stable IME, give that a try sometime.

OTOH, I can't figure out why Wasapi Exclsive should perform worse than ASIO. They're both (supposed to be) bit-exact.

I don't know really, but I just ran 1KHz FFT on D20 mode AKM with ASIO4ALL and it gave about 105.6dB, while WASAPI exclusive 104.6 but then REW crashes in more attempts with ASIO.
But my purpose isn't to squeeze out every bit of performance, so 104 or 105 doesn't reallt matter to me.

By the way, what's your take on D20 seeing the these measurements? and just to add that this is the least we would get from this DAC.
