Bypass eliminates the high pass filter circuit and volume control circuit. The DAC probably has more gain than the amplifier input circuits. This especially true if using the XLR balanced inputs. I run my A20 in bypass mode and feed it from a Fosi ZH3 DAC with a miniDSP in between them for active filtering between speakers and sub.
I don't think bypass mode also bypasses the high-pass filter circuit. It seems to only have an effect on gain/volume. The manual only calls it "volume bypass mode".

Had to do some measurements to confirm and both HPF and ON measure the same with and without bypass mode enabled. This is with HPF knob on the back a tiny bit less than the 9 o'clock position between the minimum 60 Hz and 80 Hz position:

Even without fans it will help your A20 run cooler due to better ventilation.
How likely is it that fan noise will negatively affect my listening experience?

P.S. I'm omegafucked. My cheap A20 is faulty. The sub doesn't play at all. Took me 1 whole day to realize that. Plugged out all speakers cable, only left sub cable, sub didn't play. Tried the same with old A07 amp and sub was playing just fine. Not sure if I configured things wrongly, had a wrong switch, turn on/off the wrong thing.

Now I wonder if I should change to 2x A20 Mono instead. Newly released just 1 week ago.

Does the A20 need to warm up first before playing music? I've had mine for a couple of days. Source is a Wiim Pro connected to a Topping DX3 Pro+ in DAC mode. When I play music immediately after turning on, the sound is bright, lean and harsh for a song or two, then the sound improves significantly after the amp has been on for a few minutes. Wondering if I got a defective device that was returned. The box it came in was taped shut with a blank, white shipping label about 3" x 5 ", and the blank white shipping label was even put on diagonally like someone affixed it hurriedly. Sheesh.

That sounds like a defective unit. There are a lot of vendors on Amazon that do ship out returned things without even checking to see if they are defective. In my experience, @AIYIMA has backed their products well if you contacted them directly. Do you know if your unit was sold directly to you by Amazon or Aiyima on Amazon? I never detected any harshness with my A20 and Amir's tests always look at startup behavior. He would have mentioned it if a warm up was necessary.

The order details show it was sold to me by Aiyima Audio. Do you remember how your box was sealed? Not the shipping box, but the product box. My box lid was sealed with a massive blank white shipping label, which did not appear to be something that should be used with a brand new, unopened product.

Sorry but I do not remember how mine was sealed. I purchased it in 2025 if memory serves me correctly. I do recommend you contact Aiyima directly to report your problem. It should be under warranty and as I said earlier, their customer service when i had a defective preamp was excellent.

Never noticed latent sound improvements in my A20. Good all the time
Looks like it's my speakers. Happens only when I first listen in the morning, even with different amp. The sound improves after a few songs. And it sounds great the rest of the day, even when I turn off and back on later in the day. So it's not the A20. Maybe the speakers are just stiff in the morning as they sat unused overnight...
