AI and Future of Music Production

stuff like SoundID VoiceAI is actually very interesting from a creative standpoint. and this is how it will turn out in the end; a tool....not more, not less. You still have to record it with real musicians in the end....for serious music that is.

If we can extrapolate the current skills and limitations of LLMs into the future...I think AI will demolish the commercial / popular music industry. Taylor Swift and Dua Lipa bangers will be popping up like mushrooms after rain, fueled by endless marketing and psychological research. The masses will get exactly what they don't even realize they want.

And on the flip side, in dirty clubs, dark garages and dimly lit practice rooms, poor but incredibly angry musicians will create sounds that are completely original, unique and which will push the medium forward. A lot of it will be AI-assisted, as AI can be a powerful weapon in crafty, creative hands. Maniacs like Tatsuya Yoshida, magicians like Thom Yorke or Brian Eno; their ability to stir up striking and new emotions, AI will never take that away.

At least that's what I'm hoping for!

The Horror:eek: and it's already crap as it is.

My wife watches a Netflix show called Bridgerton, that's set in the Regency era (early 1800's). The Music in the show is modern pop/rock that's been re-envisioned as classical orchestral music.

This is something I don't think ai could do, at least not well.

Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls

re-envisioned for the show.

Why do you think that? These music pieces are available in midi format, so it should be relatively trivial for AI to find fitting instruments and adapt the music to sound more like a classical piece. Listening to the pieces above, it's just a piano and a string instrument (probably a cello), I don't see why that would be very hard to do.

Imo, it's because sounding like classical music is but part of problem. From what I've read the creators don't just want it to sound like classical music, They want viewers to be able to recognize it as the original song subconsciously and evoke the same feelings as the original song. For example, In some songs where the lyrics are very prominent it can be hard to do even for well educated humans.

I've seen a few instances of people using ai to try and do this, and they didn't turn out well.
