At least, that was more or less what I was listening to in the early/mid 80s when I was still well into Joy Division / New Order ...
Good list. No Zappa, though?

On the electronic/synth side Yaz / Yazoo. One of the principals, Vince Clark was later part of Erasure, and had previously been in Depeche Mode. Consider also Ultravox

^^ :-o The Au Pairs. .......and Killing Joke. ...I saw the Au Pairs twice...the 100 Club, I think. ...Damn, one of my valuable records that was misappropriated.

Crass gig in some church hall or something, biggest mistake. ...in the far north somewhere, getting home was bad, we were running and every time the last train was leaving as we got to the platform.

I sadly never saw the Au Pairs. Great band! I did see Crass though - excellent fun! And I even saw Joy Division supporting the Buzzcocks which was ... memorable.

Patti Smith - Horses album. Back in the day I bought it when it had just come out and listened to it all the way through 3 times straight that first night. A transformational record IMHO. At least at that time.

Any that have already been mentioned plus, for something contemporary, try John Grant for dark-themed synth pop.

As always, if you try it and like it consider buying via Bandcamp. The performers get more money that way.
